UPMC Hillman Cancer Center has an exciting opportunity for a casual Radiology Assistant to support the radiation oncology department in Carlisle, PA!

In this role, you will assist technical staff in providing quality, timely care for Radiology Oncology patients

Responsibilities:

  • Assists technical staff by preparing the exam room and assisting the Therapists as directed.

  • Displays the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive matters and to exercise discretion in dealing with controversial or potentially sensitive topics. Enhances the image of UPMC and promotes professional good relationships.

  • Answers telephones and routes calls, taking messages as appropriate.

  • Works cooperatively with patients, professional staff, and other medical center personnel to maintain a good relationship.

  • Assist in radiation therapy simulation and treatment responsibilities and associated duties including but not limited to prepping treatment room, assisting patients to and from treatment, procedure and/or exam rooms, assisting patients on and off treatment table, stocking linens and supplies

  • Assist in radiation therapy processes and procedures within a limited scope under the supervision of an experienced Radiation Therapist.

  • Participate in best practices in patient care and center standards

  • Demonstrates Business Unit commitment to Service Excellence by understanding the needs of patients, their families, physicians, and co-workers and doing what is required the first time, every time by being responsible, sensitive, accurate, timely, coordinated, and thorough.

  • Performs data entry of information into ARIA as directed by Therapists.

  • Assists staff in transferring and transporting patients.

  • Acts as liaison between the multi-disciplinary groups and the patient regarding waiting periods, instructs patients in changing clothes for exams, and assisting them when necessary. Maintains adequate stock of gowns, etc. in dressing rooms.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent

  • One year of patient care experience preferred

  • A student or pending graduate of an Accredited Radiation Therapy Program is preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills due to high degree of interaction with physicians, therapists, nurses, and patients

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 34
