Radiology Aide

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Technical Coordinator and the Manager, Diagnostic Radiology performs a wide variety of duties relating to clerical duty tasks. Checks supplies, equipment and provides general assistance to department as directed.

This is a par-time, overnight position

Responsibilities:

• Properly identifies and prepares patient for examinations, answers or refers to appropriate personnel.

• Prepares and mixes adequate supplies of contrast media used in fluoroscopic examinations. Keeps barium preparation area in clean, neat, orderly and safe condition.

• Maintains inventory in x-ray rooms to ensure adequate supply of sterile/ unsterile supplies. Runs errands for department supervisors including picking up and returning instruments, supplies and laundry. Delivers material to proper department for sterilization as needed.

• Obtains readings from radiologist on completed films; informs patient physician, Emergency Department and other areas as appropriate.

• Receives exposed radiographs for processing, unloads and loads film holders and returns cassettes to proper places in department. Maintains adequate level of film supply in storage bins and chemistry (fixer and developer) in cadisystems.

• Operates duplicating, copying and subtraction units.

• Extensively uses computer applications pertaining to patient radiology numbers and output of printer bar coding. Corrects all radiology numbers, names, exams, etc., as required on film jackets, film requisitions, lists and logs.

• Receives x-ray films and prepares color-coded film jackets, files film in appropriate numerical sequence; pulls and furnishes films as required.

• Maintains film achieves by filing old films and monitoring the loan/return of films to/from other areas, using established logs and sign-out journals, following standard procedure.

• Obtains requisitions, film jackets and records as necessary to insure complete patient records. Sorts, prepares and delivers films for interpretation.

• Retrieves films from off-site storage. Pulls all films needed for the OR and delivers. Retrieves films for conferences and meeting rounds. Maintains accurate records to show location and person responsible for films.

• Functions independently within pre-established schedules and priorities.

• Refers questions and problems to supervisor.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/APTITUDE/EXPERIENCE:

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.

• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

• Ability to assign and delegate duties in a clear and understandable manner.

• Must be able to reasonably make appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patients, physicians, other associates, outside agencies and vendors.

• Four to six months to be fully proficient in all phases of assigned duties.
