  • Brief Radiologist Overview:

The Institute of Forensic Sciences (IFS) is implementing a new computerized tomography (CT) scanning service to expedite / enhance forensic decedent examinations. IFS is seeking experienced radiologists to provide part-time consulting services, assisting staff pathologists and anthropologists with CT scan interpretation and findings. This will be an initial one-year contract, with potential renewal each year after.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • For first six months of implementation, contracted radiologist will attend (either in person or virtually) daily case conference meetings to review CT scans with staff while decedent examination decisions are made and to assist with comparing physical examination results with CT scans.

  • Thereafter, contracted radiologist will be available virtually to review CT scans as needed to assist with staff decision-making and CT interpretation.

  • Assist with formulating CT scan software to ensure it provides all information necessary to make pathology examination decisions, without being overly broad to include information that is not needed for IFS purposes.

  • Assist Morgue Technicians to ensure pre-set CT scans are adequate and capture all information necessary and assist with any equipment changes that may be required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

  • Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy from an accredited U.S. medical or foreign equivalent

Experience:

  • Five (5) years' experience in general radiology and the interpretation of CT scans

Licensure:

  • Board eligible in Radiology by the American Board of Medical Specialists licensed to practice medicine in Texas

  • Maintain a valid Texas Driver's License and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated expertise in the reading and interpreting of X-Rays and CT scans, prior use of CT imaging software

  • Basic understanding of general anatomic pathology and other medical and surgical specialties

  • Ability to communicate effectively with medical staff to assist with the reading and interpretation of CT scans

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while still being available during pre-determined times to assist staff

General Information

Position Type, Salary and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Contract

  • $140/ hr for up to 1000 hrs /year

  • Hours will vary based on needs of Department and agreed upon schedule

Work Environment:

  • Morgue/ office setting

  • Routine exposure to deaths of adults and children that resulted from violence, natural disease, environmental hazards, and toxins

  • May be exposed to biohazardous materials and offensive odors

Physical Demands:

  • Requires physical strength to push, pull, and lift between 10-20 pounds if needed
