Under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager for Out Patient Services, performs radiologic imaging for patients from TCID, SASS and SASH. Is responsible for quality control of x-ray films, correct usage of x-ray and processing equipment.

Ensures that departmental supplies are maintained and that all equipment is in proper working order and manufacturer's instructions are followed. Responsible for all logs for the department such as MSDS listings and maintenance of all patient files. May drive state vehicle to perform radiologic imaging at SASH and may transport films to UHS for interpretation.

Follows UHS procedures for receipt of interpretation and reports and ensures routing of reports to correct destination. Essential Job Functions:

1.Receives and interprets and carries out physicians' orders for radiologic imaging. Schedules patients from Texas Center for Infectious Disease [TCID], San Antonio State School [SASS], and San Antonio State Hospital [SASH] for radiographic studies; coordinates with nursing staff to ensure that preparatory procedures have been performed. Receives patients, registers, and prepares required documentation. Escorts and or assists patients into x-ray area. Performs routine and advanced radiologic work using stationary or portable x-ray equipment. Positions patients and selects proper imaging mode taking into consideration patient's size, condition, etc. Provides radiation protection to patient, self and others and exposes films. Processes exposed film using automated processing equipment. Conducts follow-up radiographic examinations as directed by physicians' orders. Ensures universal precautions are followed at all times. (45%)

2.Is responsible for quality control of radiologic examination ensuring minimum patient exposure and proper processing of films. Inspects and reviews exposed film for technical quality and repeats x-ray when needed. Schedules, logs and tracks films transported to University of Texas Health Center [UHS] for interpretation.

Follows UHS procedures to ensure that reports are received. Upon receipt of report of x-ray findings, is responsible for ensuring results are routed to correct destination. Assembles radiographs for review by medical staff. Performs quality assurance activities and coordinates performance improvement activities regarding radiology procedures and record keeping. (30%)

3.Maintains schedules for delivery of supplies and preventative maintenance of equipment.

Ensures all x-ray and processing equipment is working properly , performs routine maintenance such as addition of film processor chemicals in accordance with instructions from the manufacturer; submits work orders for repairs as necessary. Manages salvage [recycling] program for outdated / unusable x-ray film. (10%)

4.Performs administrative functions for the Radiology Department. Schedules advanced imaging studies such as nuclear medicine, ultra-sound, computed tomography [CT scans], etc. with UHS for TCID, SASS, and SASH patients. Is responsible for maintenance of files of patients, x-ray files and reports files in accordance with TDH and TCID retention policies and procedures. Is responsible for all department logs and files such as MSDS listings, film counts, repeat x-ray logs, etc., using Excel spreadsheet. (10%)

5.May drive state vehicle to SASH to perform portable radiographic studies and may transport film to UHS for interpretation in a state vehicle. Participates on hospital committees as assigned. May act as lead worker: coordinates, assigns and ensures the work of other Radiologic Technicians and Radiologic Assistants is completed. {performs other duties as assigned. (5%)

Knowledge of Microsoft software such as Word and Excel

Knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to operation of a State-owned vehicle Knowledge required to provide age appropriate care to young adults, adults, and geriatric patients.

Skill in operation and care of x-ray and processing equipment Skill in interpretation of tube rating and cooling charts

Skill in selecting positioning techniques in radiology Skill in positioning patients for optimal imaging

Skill in generation and control of radiation

Skill in interacting with young adults, adults, and geriatric patients.

Ability to maintain records and logs using personal computer and computer software

Ability to communicate orally or in writing with patients, attendants, staff, employees and staff at other healthcare facilities

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to correctly interpret physicians' orders and perform the requested imaging procedure Ability to work independently or as in a team setting

Ability to organize and prioritize work

Ability to schedule and coordinate procedures, either at TCID or other healthcare facilities Ability to obtain optimal x-ray films and to use automatic film processor

Ability to read, write, and speak English.

Must take Defensive Drivers Classes per TCID policy.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:

1.Certification as a Medical Radiological Technologist or Registered Radiography Technologist.

2.Current Texas Drivers License. Initial Selection Criteria:

1.Must have an associate degree in radiologic technology or a related field from an accredited institution.

2.Bachelor's degree in radiologic technology is preferred.

3.Proficiency in operating radiographic and imaging equipment is required.

4.Experience in a hospital or clinical setting is required.

5.Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience as a radiology technician preferred.

6.Must be computer literature by demonstrating proficiency in Microsoft Office and related tools. Applicants must demonstrate advanced capabilities in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, alongside effective management of emails, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams. Additional Information:

This position is at the Texas center for Infectious Disease and will work the 7am-4pm shift. May be required to wear a HEPA mask.
