What You'll Do:

Ohio Department of Public Safety - Emergency Management Agency

Report In Location: 2855 W. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, Ohio 43235

Work Hours: 7:00AM to 4:00PM (Subject to 24-hour call)

Under the direction of the Radiological Instrument Service Manager; independently repairs, services, & calibrates electronic radiation detection & monitoring equipment (e.g., radiation detectors, person-al electronic dosimeters & pocket ion chamber dosimeters).

Performs electronic radiation detection & monitoring equipment maintenance & repair; Keeps records of the field exchange & inspection of radiological detection equipment throughout the state; Assists in the wipe testing of the Cobalt 60 Training Source Sets & the Cesium 137 Calibration Sources.

Assists supervisor in maintaining current inventory & an adequate stock of repair parts on hand to remain operational; Assists County EMA directors with radiation detection equipment needs; Maintains inventory records on the location of radiological equipment.

Assists the Radiological Instrument Service Manager & higher-level radiological instrument technicians in developing & conducting radio-logical training presentations for personnel from state & county Emergency Management agencies & various radiological emergency responders, in the use, inspection & operability checks of radiation detection instruments & related equipment.

Acts as a member of the State Radiological Emergency Response Team by gathering samples & measuring radiation exposure at the incident site; Advises safety services personnel of actions to take in order to protect the public from radiation exposures.

36 mos. exp. in electronics which included at least 12 mos. exp. in using radiation detection instruments, practicing radiation safety & in training of others in radiation safety & procedures/techniques for testing, calibration, repair & maintenance of radiological detection & monitoring instruments; 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in inventory control; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in public relations; valid driver's license.

  • Or completion of associate core program in electronics, electronics engineering or electrical/electronic engineering; 12 mos. exp. in electronics which included at least 6 mos. exp. using radiation detection instruments, practicing radiation safety & in training of others in radiation safety & procedures/techniques for testing, calibration, repair & maintenance of radiological detection & monitoring instruments; 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in inventory control; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in public relations; valid driver's license.

  • Or 6 mos. exp. as Radiological Instrument Technician 1, 84421; valid driver's license.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
