Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for producing high quality X-ray images by conducting exams in a safe and efficient manner. Verifies and follows referring providers' orders while remaining in compliance with the Imaging Sciences departmental policies. Possesses a sound understanding of human anatomy as well as x-ray positioning and the use if immobilization devices when warranted

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Systems: Medical record (eRecord), PACS, Radiology Information System (RIS), patient transport, communication systems, web paging, telephone/fax, printers.
Equipment: Wheelchairs, Stretchers, Patient beds, Portables, C-arms, Xray/Fluoro rooms, patient transfer assist devices (slider boards, lifts, hover mats), Point of Care Testing (POCT), Image processing equipment (CR processors).
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Prepares room and patient per order, properly sets up equipment, position patients, and determine proper exposure factors in order to produce a high-quality image.
Utilizes electronic patient information systems to verify patient name, date, appropriate exam, and any special exam specific comments from the provider. Understands and practices the Dual patient identifier procedure.
Maintains appropriate supplies in the x-ray rooms
Produces a diagnostic, high quality image for interpretation by the Radiologist
Transfers patients to and from imaging tables using assistive devices such as ARJO lift, transfer boards, hover mats.
Maintains accurate patient record keeping by properly identifying images and assuring images are sent to the PACS system correctly.
Completes and bills for studies accurately
At an advanced level, may train new employees or lead day to day work activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology. Maintains current NYS licensure and ARRT certification with CE credits as required.

Career Ladder: The three bands within this position are differentiated by level of independence, supervision required, ability to precept new employees in the use of all equipment, and the ability to lead and meet established departmental goals.
Band One (I): Entry Level Radiologic Technologist
Band Two (II): Competent Radiologic Technologist
Additional duties may include working on special projects, such as new equipment evaluations and assisting in the design of areas where clinical equipment will be installed, or assignment to departmental committees.
Band Two status requires a minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience in an Imaging Sciences setting, with at least 6 months dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department.
Band Three (III): Advanced Radiologic Technologist
Select Band Three Technologists may designated as Leads to support operations on various shifts. Leads may either assist their shift supervisor, or in the absence of a supervisor, determine workflow and staff schedule/assignments. Leads may also provide performance evaluation input to the section supervisor.
Band Three status minimally requires 4 years of progressively responsible professional work experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a clinical or hospital environment with 1 year dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department preferred.
To be eligible for advancement consideration, technologist must be in good standing. Readiness for movement in the bands is assessed by the General X-Ray manager and supervisor upon successful demonstration of knowledge and task proficiency as defined in the career ladder.
Movement to a higher band is based on departmental need requires final approval from the Imaging Sciences Clinical Director of Operations in collaboration with Human Resources. Employees hired externally with appropriate credentials and relevant experience may enter the career bands as a Band Three to serve in a Lead role if the need exists within the department.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $26.30 - $34.19 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
