POSITION SUMMARY

The radiation therapy supervisor supervises the day to day functions and activities of the Radiation Therapy department staff to ensure efficient and effective operations and quality patient care.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the hiring, training, evaluation, orientation, discipline, and discharge of employees

  • Responsible for assuring that all department equipment is maintained

  • Operates radiation therapy and associated equipment competently

  • Responsible for ongoing quality control and quality assurance programs

  • Assists with development of the annual budget, monitors expenditures, and completes monthly variance analysis

  • Makes recommendations and/or decisions regarding capital expenditures, supply purchases, service contracts, warranty service, supply contracts, and equipment disposal

  • Works in the capacity of the Staff Radiation Therapists

  • Evaluates needs for contract services

  • Develops and maintains all department policies and procedures

  • Observes and adheres to all administrative and safety policy and procedures of the institution and the department

Minimum Requirements

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills needed to provide appropriate levels of service to patients

  • Works effectively under stress and frequently changing job requirements/situations

  • Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

  • Graduate of accredited Radiation Therapy Technology School

  • State of Oregon license in Radiation Therapy Technology

  • Registered Radiation Therapist Technologist, R.T. (ARRT) by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists

  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) or must obtain within 60 days of hire date. BLS certification must be obtained by the last day of the month after the 60 day grace period

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or related healthcare supervisor experience in lieu of degree

EXPERIENCE

  • Five years (5) experience as a staff Radiation Therapist

  • Three years (3) experience in a supervisory position with input in staffing, budgeting, marketing, and quality assurance procedures

POSITION SUMMARY Operates and maintains all therapeutic equipment, and serves as an advisor to Bay Area Hospital Radiation Safety Officer. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential job requirements listed in bold) * Assists in writing all Bay Area Hospital radiation policies and procedures * Ensures compliance with State, Federal, and Joint Commission rules, regulations and laws * Operates therapeutic equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations * Maintains calibration of all treatment related equipment in the Radiation Treatment Center (RTC) * Ensures calibration procedures are performed in compliance to the national standards of the industry * Inputs computer software revisions and beam data, and generally provides assistance in correction or defining treatment planning computer software/hardware related issues * Works with the Radiation Oncologist and RTC treatment staff providing continuous assessment of radiation treatment planning and treatment techniques * Utilizes the MOSAIQ information management system * Maintains the RTC Radioactive Source inventory, conducts leakage wipes, prepares sources for placement, and ensures the safe storage, transportation and maintenance of the sealed sources * Assists in interstitial or intracavitary brachytherapy procedures and calculates (computerized or manually) the dose distribution of these procedures Minimum Requirements SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Essential job requirements listed in bold) * Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position * Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office equipment * Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public * Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision * Exercises good judgment, demonstrates effective critical thinking skills * Flexible, able to prioritize and address multiple responsibilities concurrently * Works effectively under stress and frequently changing job requirements/situations * Demonstrated ability in linear accelerator calibration, routine maintenance and quality assurance activities * Demonstrated clinical Radiation Oncology knowledge of daily linear accelerator treatments, daily QA, computerized treatment planning (3-D and IMRT), simulation and low-dose-rate brachytherapy * Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills, mathematical and computer background, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in prioritizing assignments * Maintains knowledge of the radiation and geometric characteristics of the diagnostic and radiation therapy equipment and also the radioactive sources commonly utilized in the hospital and RTC * Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES (Essential job requirements listed in bold) * Master's or PhD in medical physics or related field * Certified in Therapeutic Radiological Physics, or American Board of Medical Physics, certified in Radiation Oncology Physics EXPERIENCE (Essential job requirements listed in bold) * Five years (5) experience as a staff medical physicist with demonstrated experience in radiation oncology * Maintains certification in the American Board of Radiology and/or American Board of Medical Physics * American Board of Radiology * Maintains active membership in American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) GENERAL INFORMATION Union Affiliation: None The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.
