Job Summary Provides therapeutic and patient care services for the purpose of delivering radiation therapy as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist. # Job Responsibilities Delivers patient treatment plan in collaboration with physician and dosimetrist/physicist. Evaluates patients for appropriate response to treatment and reports any adverse reactions. Positions patients and selects anatomic/technical parameters accurately; maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and treatment techniques while utilizing radiation protection procedures. Reviews patient charts for completeness and accuracy according to established policies and procedures. Verifies completion of prescription, appropriate signatures, and patient consents. Responsible for effective and safe operation of equipment in the Linac treatment room. This includes the Linear accelerator, OBI, portal imager, Protura couch, and HDR unit. Fabricates individualized immobilization, custom blocks, and other beam-modifying devices. Applies as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) principle to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others. Primary liaison between patients and other members of the radiation oncology team. Qualifications Associate#s degree or higher in Science required upon hire OR Associate#s degree or higher in related field required upon hire A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree. No experience required RT(T) - Registered as a Radiological Technologist in Radiation Therapy required upon hire AND ROC - Radiation Operator Certification in the state of Kentucky required upon hire AND BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position Skills and Attributes Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment. Works under minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
