The Radiation Therapist I, under the supervision of the Radiation Oncology Manager/Chief Therapist and at the instruction of the department physicians, provides Radiation Therapy to patients utilizing a variety of radiation equipment.

Temporary Position: 3/1/2021-8/31/2021

Responsibilities

  • Provides radiation therapy to patients utilizing a variety of radiation therapy equipment. Delivers a planned course of radiation therapy.

  • Evaluates the daily condition of patients undergoing treatment and recognizes the need for emotional and psychological support to patients

  • Refer patients to departmental staff and other health care professionals

  • Reinforce radiation oncologists' recommendations regarding general activities, diet, prevention and treatment of reactions to radiation therapy

  • Maintain detailed and accurate daily records of technical, legal and statistical components of treatment

  • Assist radiation oncologists in patient positioning, radiation treatment field localization and simulation procedures using CT scanners, simulator, computers and other equipment

  • Check patient prescription and treatment records for errors

  • Perform daily quality assurance tests on radiation therapy equipment

  • Instructs radiation therapy students and/or new staff accordingly to clinical and department requirements; assists in the orientation of department and hospital personnel with emphasis on radiation safety

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors or Associates Degree in Radiation Therapy

  • Registry eligible and registered within 1 year of employment in Radiation Therapy and Technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists

  • Washington State License

  • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner

  • Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize concurrent responsibilities and demands

  • Ability to assess patients' conditions and request assistance when necessary

  • Ability to assist in the movement of patient to and from wheelchairs, carts and radiographic tables

Preferred:

  • Proficient in email and word processing systems

  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records

Utilizes his/her technical abilities to simulate and/or deliver a course of radiation therapy as prescribed by a radiation oncologist. Travels to multiple clinic sites on a regular basis, sometimes working at more than one clinic per day. Has a car, or other suitable mode of transportation, to travel between clinic sites. This position is expected to perform work at any Swedish radiation oncology facility either on a prescheduled basis or by floating. In this position you will: * Delivers a planned course of radiation therapy * Verifies the mathematical accuracy of the prescription * Maintains daily records and documents technical details of the treatment administered in Mosaiq * Observes the clinical progress of patients undergoing radiation therapy, recognizing the first signs of any complication, and determines when treatment should be withheld until a physician may be consulted * Provides patient care and comfort essential to radiation therapy procedures while adhering to all safety policies and regulations Required qualifications for this position include: * Graduate of a radiation therapy technology program, accredited by the Joint Review Committee in Radiologic Technology * State of Washington, Department of Health, Certified Radiological Technologist - Therapeutic * Registered by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Certified in Radiation Therapy * A valid driver's license and valid vehicle registration form * In the case of a newly relocated individual, a Washington state license must be acquired under the circumstances and within the required timeframe set by the state of Washington * Possession of the minimum (or greater) insurance coverage as mandated by the state of Washington * One (1) year experience as a Registered Technologist, certified in Radiation Therapy Preferred qualifications for this position include: * Experience with Elekta linear accelerators and Mosaiq oncology management system About the First Hill Campus The 697-bed tertiary-care center on the Swedish/First Hill campus is the flagship of the Swedish health-care system.
