The Nuclear Med Technologist shall be responsible for operating radioscopic equipment, producing scanograms and measuring concentrations of radioactive isotopes in specified body areas to obtain diagnostic information.

  • Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the financial, personal, medical or employment status of patients/families at JPMC.

  • Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and hospital.

  • Must report safety hazards and initiate appropriate action.

  • Must participate in safety instructional programs.

  • Explains procedure to patient. Operates isotope dose calibrator, prepares radioactive material by calculating proper dose and administers to patient.

  • Correctly performs examination and processes data for diagnostic studies.

  • Maintains quality control standards for nuclear medicine area and maintains a safe work area free of radioactive hazards. Observes strict precautions in handling isotopes to safeguard against overexposure to radiation.

  • Conducts radiation surveys in Nuclear Med. Dept. Disposes of decayed radioisotopes according to hospital established procedure.

  • Maintains current and accurate records and logs required by all regulatory agencies. Annotates test results to required forms. Computes and records test results. Maintains records of type of tests performed, use and disposition of isotopes and body products containing isotopes.

  • Inventories and orders supplies as required. Monitors equipment performance and reports faulty equipment to supervisor.

  • Assesses and monitors patient for changes.

  • Maintains order and cleanliness of work area.

  • Correctly identifies and labels all studies.

  • Performs necessary front desk operations (phone, filing, computer, etc)

  • Performs dark room tasks.

  • Takes call as assigned.

  • Schedules procedures in a manner that promotes patient flow within the department.

  • Demonstrates concern for patient safety, comfort and privacy at all times.

  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

High school diploma or GED. Graduate of approved Nuclear Medicine Technology program or on-the-job training.

Includes processing physician orders, entering data in the medical records as well as electronic order entry. The CSSR maintains the specific unit by keeping the environment clean and organized, also answering the telephone and patient call lights. High intense area of Customer Service Training with continuing education throughout the year. * Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the financial, personal, medical, or employment status of patients/families at JPMC. * Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and hospital. * Must report safety hazards and initiate appropriate action. * Must participate in safety instructional programs. * Answers telephone and public inquiries appropriately. * Transcribes physician orders accurately. * Demonstrate knowledge of importance of immediate orders and the notification of the nurse. * Labels the patient chart with appropriate information: ID number, Name, Physician. * Maintains adequate level of supplies including chart contents, forms, clerical supplies, etc. Orders supplies on designated days. * Maintains unit in a clean and organized manner during and at the end of the shift. * Accurately files information on the patient records. * Makes sure that all patient forms have the appropriate information on them: patient name, room number, physician, etc. * Maintains that forms are on the correct chart at all times. * When specifically trained, performs or assist with patient care duties such as transporting patients, ambulating, assist with daily care and documentation. * Makes order entries into Meditech accurately and timely. * Completes necessary forms, copying of pertinent MR information for all patient transfers. * Communicates with all nursing staff to relay important unit or patient information in a professional manner. * Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. * Must comply with all Standards of Performance Customer Service Training. * Performs other duties as assigned. Highs School diploma or GED required. HUC training certificate preferred, CPR/BLS certification required. Previous experience in healthcare clerical related duties preferred. Basic skills include; organizational, customer relations, math, grammar/spelling, transcription, computer training, the ability to follow written and oral direction, the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
