The role of Rack Repair Welding Tech will be working within the Material Flow Engineering Department to repair manufacturing automotive parts racks, rework engineering racks to engineering specifications. This person should have a general knowledge of mechanical assemblies; including understanding tolerances; how to read prints and properly ensure safe use of the equipment. This position is primarily in an exterior shop atmosphere, however work may be required in other areas of the factory on specific projects.


  • Repair damaged manufacturing steel and aluminum parts racks.

  • Work with engineering to rework parts racks to be compliant with engineering specifications.

  • The ability to read and interpret print drawings, to independently ensure that racks are to print specifications.

  • Safely rig equipment and components following all OSHA and other safety requirements.

  • Examine racks for defects and measure work pieces with straight edges, calipers or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.

  • Ensure adherence to department work policy.

  • High awareness of quality assurance and procedures within team.

  • Contribute towards innovation / productivity improvements.

  • Assist in the control of waste elimination, e.g. materials, consumables etc.

  • Assist supervisor to maintain inventory control of department equipment and its maintenance.

  • Help other team members as their work takes priority within the project.

  • Stick Welding (Shielded Metal Arc Welding or SMAW).

  • MIG Welding (Gas Metal Arc Welding or GMAW).

  • TIG Welding (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding or GTAW).

  • Must be able to operate a forklift and operate in a safe and effective manner.

  • Able to stand for extended periods of time and able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Able to communicate effectively with co-workers and management, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ensure work area is left clean, all equipment and tools are stowed away safely and protected against damage. Clean daily in an efficient manner

Education: High school or equivalent trade school. Must hold welding certifications

This position makes equipment recommendations and ensures that units are maintained. Technicians work in both our stores with Tool Rental Centers and in our repair centers. In a store, technicians will be expected to provide service to store customers in Tool Rental which includes writing customer contracts and invoices for equipment rental and tool repairs, checking to make sure tool is operating properly and demonstrating its proper use (as needed). In addition to supporting customer repair needs, they are also responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of equipment in the tool rental department. In non-store locations, technicians will ensure units are repaired, tested for the quality of the repair and cleaned prior to returning to the store where the repair originated.
