What you will do:

Fulfills the need for rock containing the required chemical properties in a safe manner to support the manufacturing of the product and maintain customer satisfaction.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Produces needed quantities of quality limestone and other raw materials to support the plant and production of cement.

  • Manage the preparation of quarry ground conditions to extract the needed rock including removal of overburden, exploration and reclamation.

  • Evaluates chemistry of rock to make sure unwanted contaminants such as clay, shale, magnesium and sandstone do not degrade the quality of the material, using proven methods of contaminant identification.

  • Maintains safe quarry working environment including road conditions, berm height, highwall inspection, barricading when needed and crushing system conditions and mobile equipment conditions.

  • Evaluates employee behaviors to make sure unsafe conditions or acts do not result in incidents or accidents.

  • Supports the image of the company within the community by acting professionally.

  • Maintains compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.

  • Maintains condition of roads to reduce or eliminate dust problems and properly maintains and disposes of CKD.

  • Responsible for quarry and crushing system and surrounding plant grounds and access by personnel to the quarry.

  • Provides orientation to contractors and communicates company's expectations, interact with them to address their needs.

  • Encourages and fosters a safe work environment throughout the plant. Provides training for quality work performance and evaluation of employee performance.

  • Ensures employees perform inspection on mobile equipment, crushing equipment and quarry areas. Ensures mobile and crushing equipment are maintained to a safe working condition.

  • Ensures blasting is done in a safe manner and all product is spent, also provides notification requested by the public of the shot.

  • Interacts and communicates with other managers in the plant, works closely with lab, production and mechanical departments to insure fluid operations.

  • Supports the functionality of other departments by providing staff when possible and assisting with plant activities.

  • Participates actively and keeps employees involved in 4 S and CI systems.

  • Supports GCC's goals.

  • Trains plant employees about the quarry process.

  • Shares history and experiences for improvement of processes

Experience and abilities you will need:

Required

  • Minimum of five years experience in the mining industry.

  • Minimum of five years experience supervising others.

  • Basic knowledge of chemistry, geology and equipment operation.

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal rules and regulations including environmental and mining.

Preferred

  • Degree in Geology, Engineering or mining related technical college.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

  • Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job. Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

  • Managing one's own time and the time of others.

  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

  • Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to calculate quantity and quality in a variety of areas.
