Department Profile

MSIM has a direct private investing platform within Morgan Stanley's Investment Management Division, one of the Firm's three principal business lines. It is one of the strongest direct investment platforms in the world leveraging Morgan Stanley's access, insights and expertise across the globe and includes (but not limited to) seven direct investing business units with distinctive strategies and profiles across one platform:

  • Americas Middle-Market Private Equity Strategy Makes privately negotiated equity and equity-related investments in middle-market companies primarily located in North America.

  • Asia Specific Private Equity Strategy Makes privately negotiated equity and equity-related investments in companies located in the Asia-Pacific region.

  • Energy-Focused Private Equity Strategy Makes privately negotiated equity and equity-related investments in energy businesses located primarily in North America.

  • Expansion Capital Strategy Makes privately negotiated later-stage investments in technology, health care, consumer, and other sectors

  • Credit Strategy Invests in mezzanine debt and related instruments issued by middle-market companies in North America and Western Europe

  • Private Infrastructure Strategy

  • Invests directly in infrastructure assets and seeks to create value through active asset management and operational improvements
  • Private Real Estate Strategy
  • Manages global opportunistic and regional core private real estate investment strategies.

Primary Responsibilities

Seeking to fill an analyst level role to support the Hedging Team which will primarily focus on the following:

  • Assist in recommending foreign currency and interest rate hedging strategies to private funds investing teams

  • Take on full ownership of all quantitative models which is the foundation on how hedging decisions are made

  • Provide regular reports that include hedge liquidity stress testing, fund return impact, and hedge effectiveness to portfolio management and risk teams

  • Partner closely with our hedge counterparties to obtain real time market intelligence on macro market conditions as well as monitoring current hedge positions

  • Execute FX spot and derivative trades and oversee positions within the order management system from a front office perspective


  • 1-2 years experience in financial market risk management

  • Masters in Financial Engineering preferred with high degree of comfort in Excel and Powerpoint

  • Motivation to work on buy side with an interest in learning about investing in private markets

  • Proactive person with ability to take on a high degree of responsibility and execute critical work streams with limited supervision

  • Strong interpersonal skills that will enable the candidate to build and maintain a broad network within the global MSIM private funds platform (Deal Teams, Portfolio Management, Risk, Operations, Trading Counterparties)
