Quality Technician

Position Overview

Position Objective:

Help ensure Hard Surface product quality through testing, inspection, verification and effective communication of findings. Maintain an effective system whereby resolution to quality problems and customer complaints is focused on identification and removal of root cause. This position reports to the Hard Surfaces Quality Assurance Manager.

Essential Duties: (Considering job knowledge, job environment, effort, skill, judgment, safety knowledge and responsibility):

1.Set up and maintain sampling processes for the inspection of new/existing/problem products.

2.Provide assistance to TMs,Sales Reps, Quality Managers and Financial Services in resolving quality issues.

3.Based on claims, testing and inspection, periodically assess inventory and apply needed disposition - downgrade, quarantine, lot change, etc.

4.Initiate vendor claims for defective material.

5.Work with Category, Brand Managers, Corporate Sourcing, Quality Managers and Quality Assurance Manager on specific products, special projects and problems that are quality related.

6.Perform quality checks for customer service on order replacements and customer complaints.

7.Occasionally, inspect returned material or samples from claims and assist in making decisions relative to disposition.

8.Maintain an effective system for keeping master samples accurate, protected, tracked and updated.

9.Assist the Quality Assurance Manager in keeping the department operating efficiently.



  1. Maintain a system for locating acceptable "matches" to products sent in by TMs, dealers and consumers for order fulfillment.

  2. Help maintain a system for identifying and reporting the material on Q.C. hold and ensuring that the material is effectively managed to preclude inadvertent shipment.

  3. Be able to make decisions, problem-solve and communicate well with others.

  4. Attendance is an essential function of the job. Must comply with corporate absenteeism and tardiness policy.

  5. Must be able to travel to outlying production facilities and distribution centers and occasionally to manufacturing or claim sites to perform quality functions.


Non Essential Duties: (Considering job knowledge, job environment, effort, manipulative skill, judgment, safety knowledge, and responsibility):

1.Do any troubleshooting necessary to keep the department active and effective.

2.Housekeeping.

Physical Requirements:

1.Must be able to stand/walk up to eight (8) hours a day.

2.Must be able to bend and stretch approximately numerous times a day.

3.Must be capable of lifting, stacking or moving cartons of floor covering and associated items weighing approximately 90 pounds each.

4.Must be able to see small numbers and letters as displayed by the computer screen.

5.Must meet vision requirements as tested by a company nurse.

Other Requirements:

1.Must be able to read and write.

2.Must be able to do all jobs in the departments.

3.Must be able to use a computer.

4.Must be able to communicate effectively.

5.A High School diploma or GED is desirable.

6.Must be able to manipulate data and spreadsheets

7.Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks at a high level in an unsupervised environment.

8.Must have the ability to adapt to change when the need presents itself.

9.Must be willing to work at multiple Shaw facilities with some being out of state.

Training Requirements:

1.Must complete on-the-job training.

2.Must complete any other job, safety, or quality related training as needed.

3.Must complete the LTO training program.

Tools, Equipment, and Material Requirements:

1.Computer

2.Reliable Personal Cell Telephone for location mobility

3.Reliable Personal Transportation for location mobility

4.Various preprinted forms and office supplies.

5.Ink pen.

Safety and Security Requirements:

1.Observe all corporate and plant safety rules, and procedures.

2.Use caution when walking throughout the warehouse - beware of lift truck traffic.

3.Report all safety incidents and hazards immediately.

Work Shift

8 Hr non-rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Observed Calendar, shift starts AM
