Ocean Spray is looking for a creative, collaborative, detail-oriented and results driven Quality Technician to work with the operations team (night shift) to ensure that all food quality standards are met, with no exceptions, at our Kenosha, WI facility.

  • Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, maintain, and operate all lab equipment

  • Perform analysis in accordance with our QOS methods and SOP(s), accurately and efficiently

  • Accurately record and communicate the analytical results

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including laboratory safety and chemical handling

  • Follow all Good Laboratory Practices (GLP(s)) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP(s))

  • Perform QA verification of cleaned equipment, and support/assist with sanitation

  • Perform Positive Release duties and micro testing when required

  • Perform FM investigations and product holds when required

  • Perform hand sorting when required

  • Assist in on-the-job training

  • Act as the backup for the Quality Technician in their absence

  • Any other duties as assigned by supervision or management

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Bachelor's Degree or Associates Degree in Science related field preferred.

  • 1 - 3 years prior production/manufacturing experience OR 2+ years relevant lab technician experience.

  • Food/beverage industry experience a plus.

  • Requires good mathematical ability to perform quality related calculations, good analytical skills, and effective interpersonal communication skills to work constructively in a team environment.

  • Requires good computer, Word processing, and email skills.

  • Must be detail oriented and have the ability to meet deadlines and accomplish tasks accurately while working under pressure.

  • Ability to recognize trends, situations and risks to product quality or food safety, and to timely and properly communicate those findings

Gathers sampling of product and performs quality testing of production environment and equipment. Conducts quality audits of facility assuring company standards are maintained and product integrity is preserved. Performs record reviews. Assists with special projects. A focus on standards, regulations and practices related to food safety and food quality and environmental safety is priority. All procedures and practices used are grounded in standards, regulations and laws addressing occupational safety (OSHA), building and electrical codes, and food safety and food quality (FDA) in addition to environmental safety (EPA) in accordance with Safe Quality Food (SQF) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Assure that quality assurance standards and documents are communicated and enforced by conducting daily inspections * Performs environmental swabbing of production equipment and environment with analysis of results * Prepares written documents describing analysis techniques and test results; writes SOP's and other quality documents and reports * Communicate with all levels of the organization in review of test results, including written and verbal forms * Enters quality-related work orders into SAP and Sample Manager * Gather special samples for additional incubation and defects audits as directed * Provide support for sample gathering and data recording for plant trials, 1100's and research efforts * Perform audits to verify compliance with established SOP documentation, GMP's, HACCP and Safe Quality Food (SQF) efforts * Assists with the coordination, performance, and documentation remediation of product on hold * Reviews regulatory documentation for product release (i.e. record review) * Maintains inventory of materials related to microbiological testing and coordinates shipments of samples * Participates and leads process improvement projects * Coordinates and participates in quality inspection pallet tear-down * Participates and leads quality meetings and training * Supports the assessment and management of Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points (HACCP) * Assists RQI/quality specialist with the compilation of nutritional or customer required sampling * Assists with the implementation of quality initiatives * Determines SAP usage decisions on all ingredients and film * Monitors and reviews SPC data and reports * Updates sampling plans * Maintains product specifications documentation for production * Monitor the HACCP Program and processes, reflecting a focus on continuous improvement With the customer complaint process and the product complaint process, including investigation, analysis, follow up, documentation, trending, and routine internal reporting to leadership * Communicate routinely with Quality/Sanitation Team Leader and plant leadership, identifying opportunities for improvement, training and quality assurance program goals or barriers * Exudes a high degree of inter-personal skills and has the ability to work well with everyone * Follows and enforces standards for food safety and food quality production reflected in SQF as well as the regulations of major vendors and governmental agencies such as OSHA, FDA and EPA and assures associates are consistently trained in these standards and comply with all requirements * Performs special assignments as directed * All other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE * Associate's Degree in Food Science, Quality Assurance, Business or a related field or equivalent work experience * Three years of progressive work experience in the food manufacturing industry, preferably in the quality assurance function * Requires an in-depth working knowledge of food safety and food quality standards, regulations, and laws governing the food production industry such as SQF and environmental safety regulations along with a commitment to continuous improvement * Requires problem solving skills with an emphasis on detail orientation * Requires basic mathematical skills to be able to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and count * Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook * Competency in English language (read, write, speak); excellent written, oral, and listening skills. * Knowledge of regulations of major vendors and governmental agencies such as FDA, OSHA, and EPA * Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions * Ability to effectively present information to top management PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
