Quality Technician - 2nd or 3rd Shift

2nd Shift: Monday-Friday; 3pm-11pm

3rd Shift: Sunday-Thursday; 11pm-7am

Summary:

Perform dimensional, visual, and physical properties inspections of product at various stages of manufacturing process.

Duties:

  • Provides technical support to the quality and manufacturing functions.

  • Conducts destructive examination and quality control (QC) inspections on products, materials, components, parts, etc., at various stages of the production process to ensure compliance with established quality and reliability standards.

  • Captures and analyzes statistical data from processes to either confirm compliance with established standards or identify deviations from standards.

  • Recommends new or enhanced methods, procedures and standards.

  • Record results of inspections as required. Daily work is determined by structure and needs of the production operations.

  • Will include physical properties inspections and powder testing.

  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Will also include physical properties inspection of sintered product.

  • Required to learn and understand all equipment needed to inspect physical properties and dimensional inspection.

  • Expected to work on priority order first and scan correct production information as needed.

  • Must have knowledge of sample preparation for sectioning, mounting and polishing.

Experience:

  • Requires vocational training or the equivalent experience and may require external certification but typically does not require a university degree.

  • Able to properly use and be proficient in the use of all gages and devices that determine compliance to drawing tolerances and product specifications.

  • Preferred: 3-5 years of experience preferred or must demonstrate ability to learn.

  • Must be able to use required computer software including but not limited to SAP and Microsoft Office.

  • Able to read and understand insert identification chart, routings and operating procedures.

  • Can properly interpret insert defect criteria.

  • Follows procedures/work instructions for conducting customer certifications, inspections of physical properties and coating heat approval.

  • Can retrieve and read drawings. Record data as required and can determine if the actual insert in hand matches the route card insert style description.

  • Has working knowledge of hardness and microstructure testing.

  • Has working knowledge and skills to perform a defined set of analytical/scientific methods or operational processes.

  • Applies experience and skills to complete assigned work within own area of expertise

  • Works within standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods

Complexity:

  • Performs specialized technical tasks required to support operations (e.g., IT development, research support, skilled trade)

  • Works with a moderate degree of supervision

  • Must be able to understand grain flow, microanalysis, and physical property testing

  • Must be able to identify any issues in incoming powder or production inserts with physical properties or microstructure.

  • Must be able to determine the insert type to properly evaluate to grade specifications to determine disposition of in-process or finished product. Out of specification feature will be reviewed with Corporate Grade Champion.

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the forming, cutting, sharpening, piercing, welding and/or the painting of fabricated materials for the use in a final product. 2. SKILL (Education, Experience, Initiative and Ingenuity) * Must be able to take and successfully pass an appropriate Work Keys assessment . * 1-2 years experience in area assigned to (Painting, Welding, Fabrication) * Ability to read and understand blueprints. * Ability to work independently. * Good understanding of basic shop math and measuring techniques. * Expertise with basic hand tools, air tools, gages and torque wrenches. 3. EFFORT (Physical Demand, Mental or Visual Demand) * Must have excellent natural or corrected vision. * Job cannot be performed alternating sitting and standing. * Requires ability to reach overhead, lift up to 35 pounds repeatedly, be on feet for long hours, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. * Must be capable of working independently using initiative and problems solving skills. 4. RESPONSIBILITY (Equipment or Process, Material or Product, Safety of Others, Work of Others) * Responsible for own product quality, proper measuring techniques, and tool use and care. * Evaluates and performs basic troubleshooting, and obtains support from supervision, and engineering as needed. * May periodically provide input to supervision, engineering, and quality groups relative to product improvement. * Establishes and maintains a safe and healthful working environment in accordance with OSHA requirements. * Performs other tasks as may be requested to assure the effective and continuous utilization of assets. * Read and understand moderately complex blueprints, wiring diagrams, bill of materials, and schematics. * Fabrication Shop: * Forms, cuts, and pierces metal to form fabricated assembly units. * Performs a variety of operation to include but not be limited to: Cutting, Piercing, Forming, etc. * Utilizes a wide variety of hand tools, air tools, and measuring equipment. * Operates moderately complex to very complex fabrication machinery, using digital/electronic controls. * Responsible for movement of materials within the cabinet shop area. * Paint Booth: * Operates complex to moderately complex paint spraying equipment. * May be exposed to hazardous chemicals. * Responsible for storage and care of chemicals. * Mixes and prepares paint. * Continuously loads and unloads parts. * Welding: * Performs moderately complex welding operations. * Utilizes a variety of welding equipment, ensuring all safety measures are used. * May be exposed to extreme temperatures and performs work in a confined area. * Moves parts in and out of Welding area. 5. JOB CONDITIONS (Working Conditions, Hazards) * May use hazardous chemicals. * Safety shoes and safety glasses are required. * Hearing protection is required.
