Essential Functions

Position Summary:

To advocate and support the Corporate WIN Strategy by determining, developing, and monitoring production processes for manufacturing operations consistent with team objectives of continuous improvement, standardized work, and productivity improvement. Responsible to guide technical evaluation, analysis, and related data acquisition processes to ensure plant quality objectives are achieved.

Interfaces with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality Departments

Essential Functions:

Investigate manufacturing difficulties and determine corrective action procedures.

Develop new processes, standardized work, and work instructions for new or improved products. Provide process flow to Production Process Coordinator. Answer process-related questions.

Lead or support cost-out projects to achieve value stream cost-out goals. Revise or develop standardized work and work instructions accordingly.

Refines and enhances processes by applying continuous improvement and key lean manufacturing principles to critical areas of production buy utilization problem solving and Six Sigma tools.

Lead and/or assist with various related engineering functions such as process capability improvements, design, standardization of parts, cost reduction, and quality control.

Provide technical direction in plant layout, equipment, assembly and other manufacturing concerns to Value Stream, Maintenance and/or Engineering.

Perform other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelors degree (BS) in Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through two or more years of related experience.

  • Thorough knowledge of state-of-the-art inspection and quality inspection and quality engineering/assurance techniques, procedures,

instruments, equipment, theories, principles and concepts and general business operations.

  • Ability to effectively assess and implement continuous improvement techniques to quality and manufacturing functions.

  • Ability to use standard business applications software and/or specialized data analysis tools.

  • Ability to establish goals and objectives to complete projects.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, team leaders and top management.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to effectively demonstrate team member competencies and participate in goal-setting, performance feedback and self-development activities.

  • Six Sigma and Lean tools experience is desired.

SUMMARY Direct the daily activities of Industrial / Manufacturing staff members to drive continuous improvement in all phases of the production cycle. Maximize manufacturing effectiveness through identification and elimination of major forms of waste. Identify root causes of performance gaps through use of Lean and Six Sigma tools. Formulate corrective action plans for improvement with area team members. Drive adherence to process and progress of all corrective action plans. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Provide leadership for assigned engineers and technicians * Complete annual performance reviews for assigned staff * Research and formulate plans to accomplish major projects, including manpower estimates, cost estimates and work measuring devices such as milestones or critical path charts. * Incorporate ergonomics into safety, productivity, and performance. * Monitor progress of major projects and make recommendations when needed including acquisition of capital equipment. * Develop proposals for production processes. * Support cost estimate activities for both new product lines and contract extensions. * Research and make recommendations on make or buy products. * Research and make recommendations for the acquisition of tooling, equipment, and fixtures. * Understand current safety and OSHA requirements pertaining to assembly operations. * Identify process improvements in the areas of safety, quality, and productivity. * Write assembly work processes and man assignment procedures. * Establish manpower requirements, line and sub-assembly balancing data, and expectancy time performances. * Assist in plant layout and work station design. * Plan, schedule, and prioritize work to meet established deadlines. * Provide technical support and assist as a resource person in assigned area. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or related field. * 3 or more years related experience in automotive assembly operations with application of Lean and/or Six Sigma tools. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Experience with JDE. * Previous supervisory and/or manufacturing experience. * Experience with ProPlanner or related line balancing software packages. * Experience with automotive or heavy-duty equipment. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
