Job Description

John Crane is currently hiring a Quality Manager with HSE experience for our Crystal Lake IL facility. The Quality, Manager is responsible for supporting and maintaining compliance with all John Crane, Smiths Group, and regulatory objectives, policies, and requirements for the Crystal Lake facility. As a member of the Operations team, the manager will oversee Quality Programs at the site (with some HSE duties), provide direct supervision of onsite specialists and coordinate with offsite partners to contribute to the creation of a world class Quality operation.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and manage QA department activities and workload to support the strategic goals of the company.

  • Maintenance and improvement of our ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 management systems.

  • Develop and communicate key metrics and scorecard to guide improvement efforts to include global and local KPIs

  • Review and action customer complaints and inquiries.

  • Direct supervision of QHSE personnel.

  • Lead problem solving and root cause identification efforts.

  • Lead corrective action process to ensure that identified causes are adequately addressed.

  • Consult with leaders to implement global and local continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Evaluate current Branch HSE related regulations.

  • Report, monitor, and correct environmental, health and safety, and security problems/issues.

  • Guide and promote safe work performance by developing proactive HSE systems, policies, and procedures; develop HSE campaigns, communications, and recognitions in line with Division strategies.

  • Conduct or Manage employee training around Quality, Safety and Continuous Improvement programs.

  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of John Crane, Smiths Group, and regulatory HSE policies, standards, guidelines and programs to meet the overall improvement strategy

  • Gather, organize, and maintain Quality & HSE records.

  • Prepare, schedule, and implement an annual Risk Assessment Program for all critical machinery to develop best practice safety procedures for the employee

  • Maintains all plans, procedures, SOPs and all other documentation necessary for safe and proper performance of machinery functions.

  • Coordinate with Engineering/Maintenance departments to ensure facility managed in accordance with OSHA and all other Federal, State and Local laws/requirements.

  • Advise Leaders of ongoing projects required to maintain facilities and/or accommodate changes within the programs.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

The Individual

  • BS degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Management, Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Sciences related technical discipline or equivalent experience

  • Requires 3+ - years of related work experience.

  • Strong working knowledge of HSE regulations and requirements (EPA, OSHA, DOT, etc.).

  • Must have the skill and ability to conduct and/or support sensitive investigations involving company personnel, assets and/or proprietary information.

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 management systems preferred.

  • Knowledgeable in the technical fundamentals of safety management and risk assessments and reduction, including machinery safety, ergonomics, and occupational health.

  • Direct working knowledge of operations, maintenance, and transportation management.

  • Experience in managing vendor contracts.

  • Knowledge of maintenance systems and documentation

  • Ability to interpret and act upon complex instructions.

  • Project management skills to include analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Skilled at using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment while managing multiple assignments with strict deadlines.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to sit for extend periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.

  • Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office. shop, warehouse, or manufacturing plant

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds.

  • Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned desk area.

  • Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment, including a 10 key adding machine, PC, facsimile machine and photo copier.

  • Must be able to work at a fast pace.

  • Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives and reassign priorities.

  • Must be able to tolerate changing priorities, and complete assignments despite frequent interruptions.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.

  • Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices, manufacturing plants and repair facilities. Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites, and meeting venues.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor
