Overview:
Hostess Brands, is seeking a Quality Manager in our recently acquired Chicago, IL bakery location. This location was previously part of the Aryzta LLC company and the Chicago Cloverhill bakery facility where they bake Big Texas and Cloverhill products. This facility is a 137,000 square-foot bakery that represents the largest individually-wrapped Danish pastry facility in North America. This role will be key in championing Hostess Brands compliance of quality standards and ensure food safety practices within our bakery production and operations teams.The Quality Manager is responsible for executing the overall quality direction, coordination, and evaluation of all plant quality systems as they relate to achieving corporate Food Safety and Quality. This individual is responsible to lead Hostess Brands' policies, procedures, and practices within their respective manufacturing facility. He/ She will conduct quality assurance audits of production facilities assuring company standards are maintained and product integrity is preserved.This position may travel up to 5% as business needs require.Key Functions and Accountabilities:In addition to following Hostess's policies and procedures, principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Coordinate, monitor, review and manage all documents, processes and programs applicable to quality policies, procedures, and practices. * Resolve product quality issues and communicate with management the status of complaints on a regular basis * Manages and directs staff responsible for quality control testing of plant products. * Review/Approve packaging for accurate labeling information before commercialization * Track GMO, allergens, colors, sulfites, and other sensitive compounds in ingredients and products. * Record, analyze, and measure process using tools, ie., statistical quality control * Conduct plant quality and food safety audits and confirm that corrective actions and preventive actions are properly carried out and assigned work schedules are maintained. * Ensure compliance with all food safety standards, policies and customer expectations * Monitor finished product specifications and enforce compliance * Support and implement FSMA programs to deliver an effective food safety plan. * Strengthen environmental monitoring program with emphasis on prevention * Ensure integrity of materials and finished products * Ensure the company's food safety standards and procedures are in alignment with all pertinent federal, state, and local regulations * Report out on quality scorecards *

Required Qualifications:
*
  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Technology (Biology, Food Science, Chemistry, Food Processing etc) Or a BS in Engineering (Chemical, Food etc) required. * Minimum of three years of functional work experience in Quality or Food Safety in a food manufacturing environment required.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    * Master's degree in Food Science or related field * Five or more years of work experience in Quality or Food Safety in a food manufacturing environment preferred. * Training in HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points) preferred. * Certifications an advantage including Quality Auditor, Quality Engineer, Quality Improvement, Statistical Process Control, Six Sigma preferred * Process Control Qualified Individual preferredKnowledge, Skills & Abilities: * Quality inspection, auditing and testing experience * Experience with implementation of corrective action programs * Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and databases * Knowledge of tools, concepts and methodologies of QA* Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements * Strong ability to identify potential product /packaging quality opportunities * Experience with GFSI scheme; BRC/SQF standards, requirements, and implementation. * Experience with food industry regulatory requirements in respect to labeling, FSMA and FDA. * Ability and willingness to take action * Excellent problem solving and trouble shooting skillsAddendum roles/ responsibilities (SOM, specific):* Ensure compliance with FDA regulations by reviewing product formulas and generating ingredient statements and nutrition facts panels * Track GMO, allergens, colors, sulfites, and other sensitive compounds in ingredients and products. * Work cross functionally in completing customer specification package request * Submit finished product for Kosher certification and track ingredient supplier certificationsWorking Conditions: * Manufacturing EnvironmentWe are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Provides feedback to Operations and Quality Management of major QIRs, project team relationships, owner/client perceptions, and overall quality management recurring non-conformances. * Directs inspection, testing and documentation of the works. Schedules inspection and testing with coordination between operations, consultants, material laboratories and Client. * Creates and implements project specific inspection and test plans, quality control plans and other procedures as necessary. Additionally, supports with material specification review such as concrete mix design, thermal control and other quality specialized elements. * Responsible for risk management strategy that helps projects improve profitability by reducing risk and improving efficiency via process management and risk mitigation. * Maintains relationships with owners, Clients, subcontractors, design partners and stakeholders to support project partnering and issue resolution. * Supports Site Safety to ensure that projects are completed in accordance with established safety procedures, requirements and goals. * Monitors project quality costs including resources while working to better as-bid budgets. Provides feedback to optimize project billing returns, risk reporting and testing accuracy, while protecting Walsh from claim exposure. Monitors and reports rework costs via QIR system.
