  • Patient Safety & Quality Office has an opportunity for a Quality Management Specialist I - Hospital Performance OPPE. The Specialist is responsible for the overall clinical management, compliance, evaluation, and communication of Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) processes that impact performance, accreditation, and/or patient safety quality outcomes for the University of Miami Health System.

    Support multidisciplinary quality improvement, accreditation, quality performance, and regulatory functions, working both independently and as a team member for the enterprise-wide Quality Management System. Collaborate closely with departmental directors and peers in the application of clinical knowledge and expertise; advanced critical thinking, coaching and teaching, skills and knowledge of performance improvement tools, techniques and processes to a variety of federal or state mandated quality reporting programs. Train and education staff and providers individually, in small groups, or in large workshop settings.

Maintain general knowledge of quality performance, accreditation for the Quality System and support ad hoc quality specialist assignments as requested.

Ensure data entered into peer review database is accurate, and clinically validated. Ensure accuracy of clinical summaries, data trending, reports and analysis.

Identify which cases meet established criteria for clinical case review through assessment of information from various data systems. Coordinate and effectively communicate with staff and committee members to ensure screening and scoring presentation of select cases for peer review is performed systematically and consistently. Manage quality aspects of the medical care peer review process in collaboration with the Medical Staff Office.

Manage databases, information, and other resources in order to provide necessary documentation and communication. Perform trend analysis. Work closely with the Quality Management leadership team, and serve as a primary liaison with the Medical Staff leadership team.

Initiate and take responsibility for all quality peer review follow up items, processes, and activities. Accountable for peer review processes that supports medical staff reappointment, advancement, and clinical quality. Provide auxiliary support as needed, e.g., clinical database coordination; team/task force development and facilitation; maintenance of policies and procedures and continuous accreditation readiness.

Meet deadlines and be responsible to ensure communication / training of new regulations that impact assigned functions and reporting systems to identified stakeholders. Provide support and expertise to perform general functions for the department as requested (listed in , that include staff education, committee support, continuous accreditation preparedness, quality assurance, data collection and validation, chart review, medical staff peer review and credentialing, and OPPE and FPPE.

Minimum requirements are a Bachelors Degree in Nursing, Health Science, Public Health, Health Informatics or a related healthcare field, required, from an approved or accredited nursing education program that meets State requirements for licensure eligibility.

Minimum State of Florida Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN); or ability to obtain a Florida licensure by endorsement in first six months of position start date. Preference given to Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). Clinical licensure must be kept clear and active for duration of employment.

Minimum 3 years clinical nurse work experience in a clinical or healthcare environment with an Associates Degree; Minimum 1 year clinical nurse work experience in a clinical or healthcare environment with a Bachelors Degree.

Work experience needs to include at least 2 years direct experience working in Healthcare Quality, and a minimum of 6 months work experience inclusive of OPPE / FPPE.

Public speaking experience strongly preferred.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs, Excel, PowerPoint, Word. Working knowledge of accreditation, regulatory, licensing and other standards, requirements, and guidelines applicable to hospitals and hospital-based clinics, including but not limited to TJC, CMS, AHCA, Commission on Cancer, and professional nursing standards.

Preference given to any combination of the following experiences:

  • Coursework,continuing education completion of quality and patient safety, clinical informatics,patient centered outcomes, quality improvement, and related topics.

  • Acute care experience, in clinical specialty, within the last twoyears.

  • National Certification in area ofclinical specialty.

  • Familiar with aspects of care,standards of care metrics for accreditation and maintenance.

  • Experience with EpicCare Ambulatory Core EMR (EpicCareAmbulatory, Care Everywhere, MyUHealthChart, Workbench)

  • Previous working experience with any ofthe following programs preferred: Sequel, ProDiver, Care Discovery, Tableau,NetAccess, Cerner, Sovera and/or Vizio

  • Experience with spreadsheets anddatabase software.

  • Evidence of ability to draw onknowledge from the following areas: Measurement of patient needs and nursingworkload, continuous process improvement processes, performance improvement,service excellence, systems for patient safety, healthcare quality.

  • Knowledge of the principles andpractices of value-based care, including familiarity with barriers tohigh-value care.

  • Knowledge of the principals andpractices of value-based decision-making, health care payment / reimbursement,and delivery models.
