The Quality Management function in Ultra ensures that Ultra's products and services meet the required standards of quality through direction of the quality assurance programmes and quality control policies and the application of the Quality Management System. It further ensures assurance that the QA Policy is performed by qualified and experienced personnel.

An individual at this grade leads large teams to input into the plans of the function. Will be responsible for implementing policy and ensuring delivery within area of responsibility, linking with other parts of the function or business.

Nationality Requirements

Candidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role, due to the nature of the programmes we deliver for our customers.

Job Description

The Senior Manager of Quality Assurance is responsible for ensuring the effectiveness and fulfillment of UM Braintree's Quality Policy, which is to comply fully in the conduct of the Company's business with all applicable regulatory and customer required specifications, and to maintain an effective Quality Management System, This position works in partnership with the Operations and Engineering teams to ensure that products and processes conform to applicable standards and specifications, and the incidence and costs of quality non-conformances are constantly monitored and improved, while maintaining the highest practicable standards of manufacturing productivity and efficiency. This position participates in new product introductions to ensure that all quality requirements and standards are established and works with Product Engineering and the Operation Managers to identify and develop the methods, processes, systems, settings and tools required to achieve those standards and requirements.

  • This role will require someone to be strategic yet to be very hands-on, requiring higher level leadership as well as daily work and direct involvement with production and operations.

  • Provide direction, supervision, and guidance to ensure alignment with quality policy, strategic objectives and organization goals that drive to Zero Defect plans and Strategy

  • Collaborate with senior leadership for planning, execution, and management of process improvements, projects, and other initiatives

  • Develops a quality assurance staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting and training/developing team

  • Develop and implement program quality plans and procedures

  • Ensure performance and quality products conform to established company and regulatory standards

  • Review, analyze and report on quality discrepancies and data related to production

  • Lead integrated senior management teams to determine strategy and tactical deployment, improve performance, lower costs, and generate innovative solutions

  • Investigate problems and develop disposition and corrective actions for recurring discrepancies

  • Recommends corrective actions, dispositions, process optimization and modifications

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams

  • Exhibits a high degree of technical credibility and communicates highly technical information in a simplistic and easily understandable way

  • Implement necessary training, procedures, testing methods required to reduce product quality non-conformances.

  • Lead management review meetings annually, and more frequently as required, regarding compliance with QMS and Global Quality Policy.

  • Ensure processes for Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPAs) are implemented and executed throughout manufacturing facilities, across the entire business, and a culture of quality is driven enterprise-wide beyond simply operations; manages the Corrective Action Response (CAR) process, determines root causes for quality issues, as well as trending CAR data to initiate process improvements. Provides both direct feedback to associates involved in a quality issue and facilitates broad communication of the CAR to prevent future repeats and losses to the company.

  • Assists as needed with Customer Quality Audits.

  • Ensures that all responsibilities and functions performed are in accordance with company procedures and meet quality standards in place.

  • Participate in quality programs and be aware of changes and standards within the systems.

  • Adheres to Ultra Electronics Code of Conduct and Business Ethics Standards.

  • Other duties may be assigned and are required as part of the essential functions of the position.

  • Manages all operations and personnel in the Quality Assurance Department

Required Skills:

  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Degree required, prefer MS and/or MBA

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience in Engineering and Quality, preferably with 5+ years' experience as a QA Senior Manager/Director

  • Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certified

  • Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance. Security clearances are granted to U.S. citizens.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis Tools, Lean Manufacturing, and Statistical Process Control (SPC)

  • Experience with Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA); National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (Nadcap); familiarity with regulatory requirements, Government/Military contracts, and Aerospace industry experience.

  • Best in Class Manufacturing Principles, techniques, and Zero Defect tools and processes

  • Capable of influencing a wide range of audience, and having demonstrated leadership skills to win support without direct reporting structure

  • Can marshal resources to get things done, orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal, use resources effectively and efficiently, and arrange information in a useful manner Formulate strategic vision, define implementation plan of action to achieve success

  • Willing to make independent judgments regarding technical issues.

  • Willing to handle multiple, changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong written, analytical and verbal communication skills

  • Quality Leadership and management experience in automotive or aerospace, commercial and defense hardware and software technology risk management
