The Quality Lab Supervisor reports to the Production / Logistics Leader. All of the QC lab technicians report to the Quality Lab Supervisor.


This position is the plant focal point for raw materials and finished products quality, customer issues, and the safe operation and maintenance of the quality labs in the plant. This individual will lead efforts to integrate the lab, lab personnel, and instrumentation towards assisting the plant in investigating product quality issues. Accountable for QC lab analysis, instrumentation maintenance/calibration, training of operators in satellite labs, and directing other QC lab technicians.

  • The safe operation, housekeeping, and maintenance of all labs and associated equipment.

  • Coordinating activities associated with daily lab operations and ensuring that raw material and finished goods QC testing is done in a timely, professional manner.

  • Assisting in the decision of material disposition and being active with other departments in resolving quality issues.

  • Completion of the daily QC reports.

  • Responsible for new method development and implementation. Conducting gage R&R studies for the plant to communicate methodology variability. If variability is excessive, take steps to modify to reduce.

  • Developing employees and assist in resolving employee issues.

  • Supporting the ISO Quality System and requirements to maintain the ISO-9001 certification.

  • Ensure accurate and consistent testing procedures are being followed with lab procedures being reviewed and updated.

  • Coordinate with engineers and R&D on lab requirements for plant projects.

  • Manage system to ensure all calibrations of lab equipment for the plant are completed by their due date.

  • Perform equipment/area lab support, calibrations, and performing samples/tests.

  • Champion for integrating SMART into the lab's daily work processes. SMART elements include: defining, measuring, and tracking key performance indicators, ensuring cleanliness and order, and daily problem solving at the floor level.

  • Provide direction and support for the other members of the QC lab.

  • Investigate and satisfactorily resolving customer related issues and complaints.

  • Provide necessary support to activities related to the ISO Quality System and its respective maintenance.

  • Makes sure environmental testing is accurately and timely conducted according to established procedures.


The jobholder will lead lab operations that include all area labs and the main QC lab at the Mobile plant. The jobholder will also perform basic lab technician duties as necessary.

HSEQ Responsibilities

  • Comply with Arkema's HSEQ Policy.

  • Comply with Regulations, Legal and Internal Requirements as of the site and by the applicable business units (BU's).

  • As required, initiate and participate in Root Cause Investigations.

  • Understands and executes Emergency Response procedures to mitigate unplanned events in the process.

  • Comply with all standard procedures and work instructions, aka SP, SOP, PWI, TM, to ensure productivity, quality assurance and cost effectiveness.

  • Identify and communicate potential gains or possible improvements to the management system.


  • Minimum of 5 years of lab experience with a Bachelor's degree in a technical field OR 10 years of lab experience with an Associate's degree required.

  • Working knowledge of Chromatography, Spectroscopy, Potentiometry, Gravimetric Analysis, Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRF), Melt Volume Index (MVI), and statistics required.

  • Solid computing skills including Microsoft office Suite and SAP required.


  • Strong communication, interpersonal, team-building, and leadership skills for correctly guiding a team of diverse personnel.

  • Strong problem solving ability and statistical interpretation skills.

The Formulations Quality Supervisor operates from established and well-known procedures under general directions and minimum supervision. The position is responsible for monitoring the operations of the Formulations facility. The Formulations Quality Supervisor oversees the activities of all personnel to assure policy compliance and production schedules are met while the facility operates in a safe and efficient manner. Job Duties & Responsibilities * Ensures quality controls are followed and quality issues are identified on product prior to leaving Amvac Axis facility. * Coordinates the loading of finished product. * Ensures efficient operation of the Formulations Granules packaging facilities. * Coordinates packaging operations between production unit and packaging facilities. * Coordinates turnarounds for production and maintenance. * Tracks production and makes adjustments as needed to meet quotas. * Conducts lab sample pulls as needed. * Communicates to employees expected production and safety standards. * Trains employees and ensures compliance with all plant operating procedures * Documents and maintains training records on all employees. * Mentors and supports Formulations employees. * Reviews and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standard Operating Conditions (SOCs). * Tracks, investigates, and completes incident investigations (II's) and Management of Changes (MOCs) and subsequent action items. * Assists in Root Cause Analysis on quality issues and safety investigations. * Operates forklift, yard dog, and track mobile following all company and safety requirements. * Supervises the activities of all personnel. * Assures that personnel issues or operational conditions are properly dealt with, including but not limited to, safety and medical emergencies, personnel issues, regulatory agency interaction, and technical (process) issues. * Ensures housekeeping and cleanliness of work areas. * Coordinates mechanical/electrical maintenance and I&E activities as required. * Ensures that the facility is running within company policies and procedures across all Operations areas, including Manufacturing, Maintenance, Distribution, Human Resources, Safety and the Supply Team. * Coordinates the activities in production area(s) to meet production goals, quality and cost objectives, including but not limited to managing the deployment of personnel across all work areas and prioritizing production schedules. * Ensures proper inventory of Formulations materials and supplies and assists Formulation Planner when necessary. * Conducts lab samples pulls as needed. * Supervises the completion of routine inspections and regulatory interaction. Plans as well as ensures that the operating and maintenance staff handles hazardous materials and wastes in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. * Assists in the training of new personnel, as required. * Manages the execution of special projects as assigned by Formulations Supervisor. * Complies and ensures compliance with all regulatory safety requirements and with all regulatory environmental requirements. * Complies and ensures compliance with all company policies, practices and lawful directives. * Perform other assignments as necessary and directed by management Management/Supervisory Responsibility: This position has supervisory responsibilities. Education Requirements * High school diploma or GED required. * HAZWOPER 40 hour class required. * Vocational or technical degree preferred. * AIDT Training strongly preferred.
