Role Purpose

Responsible for safe day-to-day activities required to inspect the company's products and processes. Work independently or as a team member, under the supervision of cognizant authority in the daily execution of tasks necessary to meet quality and scheduled goals of the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex inspection and quality activities involved in the manufacture and development of products and processes, dimensional layout inspection and 'first article' verification;

  • Provide technical input in areas that involve process inspection methods and acceptance criteria to Engineering, Purchasing and Manufacturing;

  • Collect data for SPC applications;

  • Learn and develop hands-on proficiency with composite inspection processes utilized by the company;

  • Perform inspection activities involved in the manufacturing of products and processes;

  • Follow written and verbal instructions, engineering drawings or sketches;

  • Participate in the operation of and compliance with all safety, hazardous material handling and disposal requirements in accordance with government regulations and company procedures;

  • Perform Process and product audits;

  • Prepare inspection reports, document observations such as non-conformances;

  • Communicate ideas, problems and suggestions to supervisory authority;

  • Maintain a clean work environment (including assigned storage and cleaning duties) in full compliance with all internal, customer and government regulations;

  • Comply with Human Resources policies in a manner that is fair and equitable for all employees while ensuring optimum productivity and resource utilization and a safe workplace;

  • Fully comply with the Company "Policy Statement on Contracting with the United States Government" in all areas of responsibility involving direct and indirect contracting with the government including ensuring any subordinate staff is aware of the Company policy and their individual responsibility and accountability for complying with this procedure;

  • Perform other assignments and tasks as directed;

Qualification & Skills

Education

High School, GED or technical school graduate

Essential

  • MUST BE U.S Citizen or Permanent Resident.

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in hands-on operational quality;

  • Ability to read and follow detailed instructions;

  • Willing and able to perform a wide range of physical activities, some requiring fine manual dexterity;

  • Ability to communicate job problems to a supervisor;

  • Ability to recognize discrepancies on materials or processes;

  • Ability to work from sketches and use simple measuring instruments such as tape measures, micrometers and vernier gages;

  • Knowledge of arithmetic involving decimals and fractions and its application to use sketches and measuring instruments are required;

  • Must be willing to work as a team player as well as independently.

Physical Requirements

  • Specific Vision abilities required; including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus with a specific requirement for corrected vision at 20/25 or better;

  • Must be able to work in a production environment and travel throughout the facilities and corporation to obtain information needed to perform job functions.

  • Employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs., using proper lifting techniques.

VIEW JOBS 7/22/2018 12:00:00 AM 2018-10-20T00:00 What you'll do Role Purpose The scope of the role is to lead and manage the GKN Cromwell Engineering, Quality and Technology (ETQ) functions as a whole in an effective manner meeting the site business targets. The role will be responsible to develop, mentor and manage Engineering and Quality System resources and processes that efficiently and effectively support the site aerospace engine manufacturing, new product introduction (NPI), development of new/improved composite manufacturing methods, and development of product and technology strategies. Key Responsibilities * Responsible for the engineering function executing Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) disciplines under the Aero Engines AS9145 and AS-1300x Zero Defect Manufacturing processes. * Support Program and VS with effective and efficient processes, trained and engaged resources, keeping clear lines of accountability. Specifically supporting effective New Product Introduction employing gated Life Cycle management processes. * Implementation of the standard ETQ processes with specific focus on processes for PDLM, ZDM, NCP, WFP and QMS. * Management of the site Quality organization and Quality Management System to the AS-9100 Quality Management System * Development of the site business strategy with focus on Technology insertion. Development of process automation, specifications and design of composite molding equipment. Industry 4.0 smart factory integration complying with the business strategy of GKN Aerospace Engine Systems (AES) and applicable functional strategies. * Effective management of site Tooling Engineering supporting composite molding processes including design and fabrication of certified mold tools. * Actively establish efficient networks throughout GKN Cromwell's different units to secure efficient working/reporting structures and improve Engineering performance. * Development and training resulting in highly motivated staff capable of meeting the short and long-term operations requirements of the Company using GKN's Organization Planning Process. * Demonstrate that business objectives are substantiated and monitored by Key Process Indicators, focusing on continuous improvement of manufacturing processes. Effective Root Cause and Corrective using disciplined industry standard methods (8D, A3, Kepner-Tregoe). * Create Scalability and Flexibility in order to meet demands of the Programs and Value-streams including development of the right internal and external flexibility and offload. * Coordinate resources between business and Programs/Value Streams within GKN Cromwell, supporting business/program accountability through clear lines of accountabilities at the Value Stream and Chief Manufacturing Engineering levels. * Ensure effective capacity/utilization and cost management of Engineering workload needs and allocation using GKN's network of engineering resources. * Collaborates with other functional leaders of quality, materials, production control, manufacturing information systems, and procurement to ensure short and long term business objectives are met. * Support the Chief Engineers deployed to the Programs to ensure that contractual obligations and quality of our products is consistent with agreed upon customer specifications through the management of a highly engaged engineering team. * Control the Engineering cost (time reporting, budget principles i e). * Perform small improvement (Problem Solving and Process Efficiency) activities. About you Education * B.S. Degree in Engineering plus 10 years directly related experience in aerospace or automotive manufacturing and design. Solid foundational knowledge of technology within a larger organization * Master Degree preferred. Formal Qualifications * MUST BE A U.S Citizen or Permanent Resident with ability to gain USG Secret Security Clearance * Aerospace or Automotive manufacturing engineering experience. Composite manufacturing experience a plus. Broad engineering background across multiple product sectors and customers. Demonstrated training, manpower planning and employee relations skill, utilizing a participative style of management required. Good knowledge on business process, cost responsibility and complex engineering tasks * Six Sigma certification and hands on experience in Aerospace or Automotive a plus. * Good management skills including salary administration, goal setting, training needs assessment, effective delegation, coaching, etc. * Strong interpersonal skills, with proven record of achieving performance and operational improvements in such areas as; assurance of product quality, employees and supervisory * Demonstrated skills in providing creative leadership; analytical and conceptual skills/abilities to identify, analyze and resolve problems creatively and strategically. * Good organizational skills, ability to multi-task and demonstrated abilities in leadership, communication and planning. * Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively interact and persuade all levels of management, staff, hourly employees, and customers required. * Ability to be a leader in change management, demonstrate personal credibility and strong aptitude to proactively identify problems and propose effective solutions. * Effective team player and partner, and demonstration of an immediate sense of urgency, as well as flexibility. * Fully proficient with Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook * Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of employees, plant leadership, customers, stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
