The Lead position objectives are similar to those of the supervisor. However, the responsibilities and authority are limited and usually confined to one section of the assigned department. The QA Lead oversees, inspects and tests precision machined components and subassemblies for conformance to predetermined mechanical standards, specification and tolerances according to the companys quality procedures, production drawings and industry standards.

Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodation for disabilities may be made for one or more of the following:

  • Acts as a liaison between supervisor, maintenance, production control and machinists with daily responsibilities.

  • Proficient to operate and maintain 2 or more machines according to detail blueprints, specifications, work orders and instructions, as needed.

  • Planning

  • To assist by keeping the Supervisor informed as to the status of present production and by foreseeing and advising the Supervisor of future bottlenecks and interruptions in production.
  • Inspects semi-finished components including, but not limited to, bolt blank stock, washers, internally and externally threaded fasteners, and raw material for conformance to customer specifications and production/manufacturing drawings

  • Safety Employee safety is of the utmost concern. As such, it the responsibility of both the lead and the supervisor to ensure and promote a safe working environment. It is expected that the lead will ensure proper PPE usage across the department, identify safety concerns and provide ideas and leadership in coming up with ways to improve safety.

  • Methods

  • Confirm and validate standard methods are followed. Implement new and improved methods.
  • Quality
  • Control quality in accordance with engineering specifications and inspection standards and procedures.
  • Materials
  • Make the best possible use of materials by keeping scrap to a minimum and developing methods of salvaging material by rework. Notify the proper person before material supply is depleted. Properly track and store materials and parts assigned to the department. Notify Supervisor of the requirements for nonproductive supplies in time to avoid running out.
  • Equipment and Tools
  • Ensures all machines are properly lubricated, maintained, used, and cared for. Schedule and coordinate needed maintenance. Ensures that tools and dies are properly cared for, used, and kept in operating condition. Inform Supervisor when machines will not hold tolerance. Ensures machines are properly guarded prior to operation.
  • Records
  • To maintain those records assigned to him by the Supervisor. Assist the supervisor in completing, updating, or maintaining those records that are not of a confidential nature. I.e. training records. Not within duties to have access to confidential personnel records.
  • Personnel
  • In general, it is the responsibility of both the Supervisor and the Lead Person to obtain the wholehearted cooperation of all employees in the attainment of the objectives of the organization. Assist the supervisor by providing verbal feedback on employee performance as needed.
  • Training
  • Responsible for ensuring new employees are properly trained including but not limited to safety, general procedures, internal controls, and machine operations as directed by the Supervisor. Coordinates the induction of upgraded or transferred employees to provide proper on the job training and instructions as directed by the Supervisor. Ensures that operators on new machines or operations are properly trained as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Discipline
  • To enforce discipline as far as it is possible, through persuasion, since the lead person has no authority to take disciplinary action. Inform the supervisor of violations of company rules and regulations upon notice/observation. To refer matters requiring a policy decision to the Supervisor.
  • Communications
  • To keep the Supervisor informed of technical aspects of the work.
  • Housekeeping
  • To be constantly on the alert for hazards, reporting them to the Supervisor. To develop and maintain safe working habits among self and trainees.
  • Working Ensures working conditions are not injurious to health of workers.

  • Implements and suggests waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the function and department such as recycling opportunities and elimination of paper waste.

  • Final inspection of close tolerance fasteners in accordance with companys internal procedures and customer requirements.

  • Maintains inspection reports and records inspection data on department approved forms.

  • Able to use precision measuring equipment and perform detailed dimensional inspections as required.

  • Coordinates inspection activities with the Supervisors and employees in the area where work is being performed.

  • Reads and comprehends blueprints.

  • May be required to determine methods of inspection to be used.

  • Responsible for scanning of paperwork, filing, data entry, and product certification as needed.

  • Inspects, adjusts, and verifies accuracy of gauges and measuring instruments for conformance to specifications and issues gages to support factory production.

  • Processing customer returns in accordance with quality procedures and polices.

  • Attends PMRT meetings as needed to assist in dispositions of rejection tags.

  • Performs preliminary review of product rejections issued by inspectors.

  • Reviews calibration certifications in accordance with quality procedures and purchase order requirements.

  • Development of First Article inspection documents and creates inspection reports in accordance with quality procedures.

  • Review of final inspection documentation and assist compliance team as needed.

  • Adheres and implements all company HSE policies, procedures, and practices.

  • All employees are responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.

  • All employees are responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.

  • All employees are required to bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to managements attention immediately.

  • Continually seek opportunities to improve our HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory duties.


Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.

  • Understanding of test equipment and lab procedures.

  • Minimum 6-7 years of inspection and/or physical laboratory experience.

  • Completion of college level mathematics, metallographic, or mechanical engineering a plus.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic mainframe computer systems and familiar with Spreadsheet and Word Processing software; Database systems

Mathematical Skills
Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) Ability to perform these operations using units and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
