Title: Quality Assurance Manager


The Plainfield Operation has a diverse product offering, ranging from PAB to white spirits to ready-to-drink cocktails. The Governance Team is responsible for ensuring that Diageo's products are produced in compliance with government regulations and corporate requirements. This position as a member of the Governance Team will play a key role in delivering transformational change in to the facility.

The Food Safety Manager is responsible for the design, implementation and embedding of processes and procedures to support the site's efforts in building and embedding a Quality System capable of IS09001 FS22000 accreditation/registration. This includes ensuring that Diageo's high standards are maintained and that the site meets the Diageo Food Safety and Compliance policies as well as the Diageo Global Risk Management Standards.

Purpose of Role:

As a member of the plant Governance Team, the Food Safety Manager is responsible for designing, implementing and monitoring policies and procedures in support of the site's Governance agenda. This individual will work with the Director of Governance and support personnel in rolling out and validating processes designed to protect consumers and Diageo's brands.

This position will work closely with the Brand Technical Center Food Safety and Compliance Manager (or designate) and the other North American facilities to ensure that GMP and sanitation at Plainfield meets that of a food-manufacturing environment and that a strong Quality Management System is developed and embedded. This individual in this role must be a change agent, able to diagnose, design and implement changes within a manufacturing setting. Therefore, the ability to be a self-starter, multi-task and prioritize within a fast-paced environment will be critical to being successful in this role. This individual will also be responsible for communicating to key stakeholders.

Primary areas of focus for this individual will be:

  • Implement a site Food Safety and Quality Management System.

  • Leading the site through ISO/FSSC preparation, evaluation and registration.

  • Standardization of the site quality processes, including the continued development and maintenance of the site quality policies and procedures

  • Establishment of a robust audit program for detecting process gaps, monitoring compliance, and identifying process improvement opportunities.

  • Oversight of the site HACCP program to assure food safety.

  • Lead the Food Safety Team.

  • Driving of the developing and maintaining site sanitation policies and procedures in compliance with the Diageo North America GMP/Sanitation policies

  • Providing the site with expertise in industry Food Safety and Compliance practices and Diageo Food Safety and Compliance policies

  • Reporting to stakeholders of the state of the quality programs assigned

Management Responsibilities

  • Deliver a robust Quality Management System for the site

  • Deliver on the ISO/FSSC agenda for the site

  • Super engage site personnel

  • Influence peers and stakeholders to action in support of the Quality agenda

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Degree/Diploma in Food / Dairy Science, Chemistry, Engineering or related field or 3-5 years of Quality or Sanitation experience in a food or beverage environment

  • Strong communication, writing skills and organization skills with the ability to multi-task

  • Demonstrated knowledge of sanitation chemicals and their usage, MSDS, and protective equipment

  • Demonstrated ability to effect change within a manufacturing environment through diagnosing, designing and implementing solutions

  • Knowledge of FDA, USDA and HACCP a plus

  • Familiarity with performing microbiological testing is a plus.

Interacts with Deck Supervisors and Golden Teachers on issues related to class scheduling, student progress, customer service and employee performance and training.</li> <li>Provides sales and marketing training to all qualified sales staff.</li> <li>Provides direction in the retail and vending departments to ensure a proper mix of products and pricing is achieved.</li> <li>Trains and oversees private party staff to ensure that the GSS standard operating procedures are being maintained.</li> <li>Gains knowledge and experience in the Links software to achieve a high level of competence in bookings, class scheduling, reporting and administrative functions.</li> <li>Gains a high level of knowledge and experience in the GSS pool operations necessary to maintain a safe and sanitary swim environment.</li> <li>Initiates and oversees workplace employee activities (“Fun” Department) with the goal of achieving improved employee satisfaction.</li> <li>Directs and oversees the implementation of the Emergency Action Plan and all safety procedures that pertain to the GSS facility and trains all current staff on the GSS EAP.</li> <li>Maintains current certifications and stays up-to-date professionally on the aquatics and management field.</li> <li>Fulfills other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Education/Experience</strong>: High school diploma or GED is required.
