Quality Engineering Co-op needed to assist in supporting the quality department. Co-op must display a strong technical aptitude along with the ability to work independently, as well as interact closely with other departments and employees.

  • The student will apply principles that he or she has learned in school to hands-on situations

  • The student will be responsible for accomplishing performance goals and will receive progressive responsibility in operations/manufacturing throughout his/her co-op experience

  • Will identify and recommend process improvements for specified projects

  • Will perform or review systems analysis, testing and documentation for existing processes

  • Will take ownership and responsibility for identified projects.

  • Work within specifications provided to meet project goals and objectives in a timely and accurate manner

Co-Op Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college and have successfully completed their freshman year prior to co-op

  • Must be pursuing a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering or hard sciences (chemistry, physics, mathematics)

  • Must be able to commit to a 6-month minimum assignment, 20 hours per week

Co-op position will be flexible to work around breaks and weekly school schedule

Job Description We are currently seeking a Quality Systems Specialist to be based in Irvine, CA. This position is responsible for three different elements of the Quality System: Document Control, Complaint Handling, and Internal Auditing. Document Control Responsibilities include all related functions within the document control area: * Process engineering change orders (ECO) efficiently and in a timely manner * Identifies nonconforming documents and/or change orders and coordinates correction * Controls distribution of documents ensuring current revisions are available and obsolete copies are removed * Coordinates the activities of the electronic documentation system to ensure proper routing and completeness and accuracy of documents Complaint Handling Responsibilities include receiving, reviewing, and documenting complaint evaluations of all BIOLASE products customer complaints.This is a techncial position that is responsible for ensuring system compliance to the established standards of quality according to FDA, European and Canadian requirements for medical devices. This position primarily interfaces with the service and operations departments in the identification and resolution of customer complaints. The Quality Systems Specialist will be evaluating each complaint with an understanding of international medical device regulations and ensure the proper and timely handling of each complaint. This includes immediate evaluation of any potential patient or user injury with the proper escalation methods, according to BIOLASE procedures. Internal Auditing Responsibilities include conducting and documenting BIOLASE audits, along with evaluating audit findings and monitoring corrective action implementation. This includes coordinating internal audit activities as well as supporting on-site audits by external authorities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following, in addition to other duties assigned: * Ensure completeness, accuracy and timelines of all document control elements, including ECO, and supporting Quality System documentation and records. * Participate in CCB (Change Control Board) activities and supporting documentation. * Establish and maintain complete complaint files and databases for all customer complaints, according to US and International regulatory and compliance requirements. * Review all received complaints to identify if a complaint is reportable under the Medical Device Reporting (MDR) guidelines in the US or other international Vigilance system requirements. * Coordination with complaint investigation and analysis personnel to understand root cause analysis in support of documentation to properly close the complaint. * Conduct and monitor internal audit activities and evaluate audit findings. * Support and interface with external auditors, including FDA and Notified Bodies, related to the external audit activities and documentation related to the quality system processes. * Monitor and participate in CAPA related activities during CAPA investigations and analysis. * Work closely with the Regulatory Affairs Group to ensure timely and accurate information is presented for any post-market surveillance and vigilance activities are needed. * Interact with other functional groups inside and outside the Quality department. Skills & Experience Bachelor's Degree in technical science discipline, or Associate Degree in a technical field plus 2-3 years of experience in the medical device industry related to document control, complaint handling or other quality assurance / compliance functions. At least 1 year of recent experience in a medical device quality systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: * Ability to quickly evaluate and analyze incoming data to ensure proper and immediate action regarding important regulatory requirements. * Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. * Strong communication skills, both oral and written. * Ability to prioritize, multi-task and adapt to change. * Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong working relationships. * High degree of initiative and self- motivation with a strong sense of accountability. * Strong computer skills in Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Presentation Applications. * Strong working knowledge or database applications and medical device complaint handling software applications.
