How you'll make an impact

As a Quality Engineer you'll be a champion for quality and our customers. At Xero quality is a team responsibility. You'll help coach the team on development approaches and testing strategies to promote quality as well as being a hands-on member of the development team. Your proven analysis and testing skills will help the team build quality in, and your experience with test automation and/or development will enable you to contribute as a cross-functional team member.

Success looks like

  • Contribute to the initial specifications, user stories and/or design of new or improved features, working with Analysts, Designers and Product Owners.

  • Work in a cross-functional team to deliver robust, high quality software meeting the requirements of the agreed specifications and complying with Xero's formal and informal development team standards and procedures.

  • A successful delivery team will be self-sufficient, the team will be able to refine work and define and execute testing and test automation tasks without relying on you, the Quality Engineer.

  • Stories will be developed with quality in mind, this means that acceptance criteria and/or tests are well defined, work is testable and easily automated.

  • Collaborate with the team to design, develop and embed systems, processes and practices to build quality in.

  • Be a champion of quality and coach the delivery team on development approaches and testing strategies to build quality in.

  • Promote collective ownership of quality and work with the team to create sustainable, quality development processes that do not rely on specific individuals.

  • Contribute to development, DevOps and test automation tasks.

  • Be a champion for the non-functional quality aspects, e.g. performance, usability and security.

  • Help build a positive work environment where others feel confident and able to deliver great work.

  • Continually be open to learning and sharing your knowledge.

Job Title Quality Engineer Intern: Slalom's 2020 Internship program is a 10-week paid engineering focused project team of student interns learning and practicing Slalom's software engineering capability model under the direction of experienced technologists and leaders. Slalom will select an internal project designed to provide lift across the organization and leverage modern technologies to realize that vision. Selected interns will utilize bleeding edge engineering practices and leverage new technologies in an agile delivery model mirrored from Slalom's full-time consultants. Interns will also be leveraging cloud platforms and technologies to create new analytics and dashboards based on application datasets. This structure creates not only a valuable real-world experience for students to up their expertise and capability, but also mutually benefits Slalom as an organization. Each internship team will be building and deploying the application using DevOps best practices to a cloud environment.
