Responsibilities include instructing mechanical inspectors, establishing inspection and sampling plans, investigating causes of nonconformance, analyzing quality data, implementing corrective actions, and leading improvement efforts. Works with manufacturing to continually seek out sources of continual improvement.
The successful candidate will have hands on experience in mechanical inspection, a thorough understanding of drawings, specifications, and standards, familiarity with machined parts and their manufacturing processes, and a background of quality system improvement. Past experience working in a higher-level QMS (ISO 9000, QS 9000, etc.) is highly preferred.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Plans and directs activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for internal processes, materials, and products. Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation, utilizing knowledge in engineering fields as needed. Evaluate and process non-conforming product or processes. Analyzes data to establish trends in order to prioritize root cause and corrective action activities. Investigate and resolve part or process quality issues as part of a hands-on operations team. This includes communicating with internal and external customers and suppliers both in writing and verbally to understand and fulfill requirements and to resolve complaints
Devises sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data. Utilizing problem solving techniques (8D or other), helps perform root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action for process related concerns and effectively works with team members of other disciplines to resolve issues with robust solutions. Supports the quality inspectors to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the quality management system. Implements methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material utilizing existing procedures. Assist with planning the overall activities of in-process/outgoing quality areas relative to his/her product area responsibilities. Typically work with the production team to implement any new testing criteria or assembly methods that are developed.
Support preparation of first article inspections, including identification of critical features with engineering, and coordination with inspection to assure proper inspection techniques. Review inspection data to assure integrity and provide data analysis, as needed. Communicate effectively with all departments regarding problems and corrective action.
Compiles and writes training material, control plans, and process work instructions and controls. Conducts training sessions on quality activities. Leads root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action for process related concerns. Engages in continual improvement activities to enhance the quality system, such as 5S, Kaizen lean methods, etc. Develop and continue training activities to build quality awareness within the specific product line(s).
Assist Quality manager in establishing, implementing and maintaining the quality management system. Interface with all departments to ensure transfer to Production of new products are in accordance with approved data and appropriate records.
Conduct audits, including closing out audit findings, creating audits finding reports and determine proper corrective and preventive actions. Analyze failure, corrective and preventive action to respond to customer complaints. Ensure timely resolution of internal failure, corrective actions and preventive actions.
Education and/or Experience:
Degree in mechanical, manufacturing or industrial engineering or equivalent experience
5+ years related experience and/or training
Ability to interpret drawings, including solid working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Detailed knowledge of metrology concepts and basic inspection and statistical techniques
Detailed knowledge and experience in design for manufacture/ assembly concepts
Detailed knowledge and experience in root cause analysis
Basic computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and MRP systems
ASQ CQE and/or Black or Green Belt Six Sigma Certification a plus
Able to lift up to 25 pounds
Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is required in designated areas.
