The Quality Engineer will be responsible for the development and sustainment of Tesla Energy Product group (Powerwall, Megapack subassemblies -Battery packs, Thermal system, Inverter etc.) in Service Manufacturing organization. Service Manufacturing is responsible for new production and remanufacturing of high voltage batteries, Drive units, Residential/Industrial energy storage and infotainment hardware for Tesla vehicles. The successful candidate for this position must be a problem-solver and demonstrated leader, have a strong quality & customer-focused mindset, and have the personal drive and stamina for relentless, continuous improvement.
Development and Sustainment of Quality APQP Deliverables for Energy lines. Support New Product Introduction team and complete Quality Deliverables through each phase from Engineering Builds to SOP
Create and maintain PFMEAs to determine potential risks in remanufacturing process and drive resolution of high-risk issues into process controls
Establish and maintain Control Plans to assure critical features are controlled and monitored through the assembly/production processes. Develop CTQ and CTP characteristics
Establish criteria for Part Inspection Standards based on product specification and process critical requirements.
Support implementation and sustainment of Quality Management System
Create schedule for regular audits and inspections to be performed by quality technicians to review and provide disposition to non-conforming material
Work with Suppliers and SIE/SQE team to address Part Quality Issues by creating Supplier Corrective Action Reports
Lead and facilitate sorting activity and drive part improvement with suppliers on part non-conformances
Lead internal and external containment activity on non-conforming material by determining appropriate suspect range to quarantine and provide disposition of material
Track quality performance metrics from technician audits and organize regular reviews with all cross-functional stakeholders; prioritize top issues and drive continuous improvement activities
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, etc) or other technical discipline, or equivalent experience
5+ years' experience in Manufacturing quality
Certification Preferred: ASQ CQE / Six Sigma Black Belt
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve conflicts and demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and implement changes.
Experience in PFMEA/Control plan development and reviews for production processes
Experience in QS-9000, ISO/TS 16949, APQP, PPAP
Specific training and demonstrated success in applying quality problem solving methods, such as fishbone diagrams and/or 8D, and implementing successful countermeasures.
Strong quantitative and data analysis skills, including process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, and SPC
Well versed in MSA and SPC
Proficient in SQL, Minitab
