Job Description

This position is responsible for the overall management of NDT inspection, training, certifications and personnel. Responsibilities include supervising a staff of 15-20 NDT technicians and team leads across 3 shifts.

Responsibilities also include interviewing/selection of staff, training and certification processes. This position is also responsible for fulfilling the role of quality engineer subject matter expert in Level III NDT operations, as well as, ensure the quality of parts produced meets specifications an customer expectations. Plan and direct activities consisting of development, application and maintenance of quality standards for industrial processes, materials and products.

Essential job functions: Develop test techniques and write procedures with NDT staff Effectively communication NDT related activity with other members of management and employees Evaluate equipment functionality (can be accomplished through NDT staff at times) Research and recommend new equipment if needed Communicate NDT specifications, processes and procedures in support of in-house inspection and external supplier activity Accept/Reject NDT inspections in question in conjunction with Engineering Must analyze data, solve problems, provide professional customer service, and support a team environment Ensure quality of parts meet specifications and customer expectations Maintain quality system requirements Collaborate with customers to determine critical part repair requirements and make necessary recommendations Provide support to operations ensuring consistent application of quality techniques Resolve quality issues and reinforce commitment to quality Actively participate in quality planning activities to determine appropriate use of existing and new measurement systems Coordinate pre-launch production trial run process monitoring Quality auditing


NDT Level III certified NAS410 in RT and PT Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs ASNT preferred

Education Certification

BA/BS with 3-7 years of experience MA/MS with 2-5 years of experience

This Quality Professional may have a team leader role in respective areas. This is accomplished through application of knowledge in quality systems, driving adherence to disciplined systems and robust processes, and focused standardization of best practices; in conjunction with managing to a cohesive set of key performance metrics that provide an objective perspective on the business operating system health and effectiveness. The Quality Engineer also creates and maintains cross functional relationships needed to foster a proactive engagement culture amongst the business operations team and a productive working relationship with customers. Primary Purpose of Position: * Under the direction of the Quality Manager, the Senior Quality Engineer has the following responsibilities: * Serving as a technical consultant to the facility in quality assurance systems functions including, but not limited to; quality system specification requirements; internal and third party audits. * Primary Quality resource for special projects and new technology initiatives, as needed, in support of the overall business strategy. * Tracking audit corrective action, investigations, documentation, and implementation. * Developing and implementing effective quality assurance systems and procedures to ensure compliance with customer and corporate requirements. * Work collaboratively with manufacturing, engineering and ABS on APQP and FMEA related to new product development / launch. * Lead process improvement teams when required. This includes assisting with corrective action development and training. * Assist in conducting system, product and process audits. Monitor all manufacturing processes through audits and daily evaluations to ensure that processes are being followed. * Apply advanced knowledge of quality systems and tools to drive disciplined systems, robust processes and standardization of quality plans and best practices. * Provide coaching and support for plant quality technicians to ensure strategies and plans are implemented at the location. * Oversee all customer claims management and ensure robust problem solving and corrective actions. * Coordinate critical supplier quality activities with purchasing. Help to audit and qualify new suppliers and to problem solve supplier quality issues. * Assist Quality Manager as liaison between Manufacturing, Quality and Engineering relative to customer specifications, customer quality requirements, and customer problems. * Travel as necessary to customers and suppliers to assist with quality improvement activities. * Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Quality Manager. Major Activities/Key Challenges * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and use structured approaches to identify root causes and recommend solutions; * Ability to lead technical activities to meet timing and budgetary targets; * Good verbal and written communication skills; * A working knowledge of manufacturing processes and improvement strategies; * Ability to enjoy problem solving and relationship building across departments; * Ability to tell stories with data, educate effectively, and instill confidence in recommendations; * Streamline and improve existing data analytics tools within the continuous improvement processes and systems; * Use data, best practices and Kaizen methodologies to increase process efficiency and reduce operational cost. * Must have working knowledge of manufacturing and quality processes and principles. * Requires experience in product and process failure analysis and an understanding of quality techniques such as SPC, TQM, Kaizen, MRB etc. * Good understanding of SMART manufacturing techniques. * Must have demonstrated a record of achievement in problem solving with production teams. * Must be skilled in use of personal computers with emphasis on analytical software. * Excellent verbal communication, presentation, training and leadership skills. * Oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and superior organizational abilities. * Ability to take initiative, to maintain confidentiality, to meet deadlines, and to work in a team environment essential. * MS Office Suite Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) Qualifications Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution * Minimum 5 years experience in a fast paced lean manufacturing environment. * Minimum 2 years experience in quality techniques SPC and TQM * Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Preferred Qualifications: * Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) designation * Six Sigma Green Belt * JDE & Lotus Notes experience preferred. * New product development and launch experience preferred. * Experience with extrusion, anodize, paint, and fabrication processes. * Product knowledge and / or experience related to the building and construction market. * Experience with APQP, FMEA, and problem solving. * Experience with lean manufacturing principles. * Knowledge of Quality methods, techniques, and equipment. * Demonstrated experience in coaching others.
