Job Overview

We have a great opportunity for an experienced Quality Engineer to join our team located in Milwaukee, WI.

Major Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the Komatsu customer focused corrective action and quality improvement process.

  • Use Salesforce to monitor and review field concerns and identify areas for product improvement.

  • Lead cross-functional teams of Engineers, Customer Service, Technical Service and Manufacturing individuals to provide corrective and preventive actions utilizing Komatsu's 8-D process.

  • Utilize SharePoint to capture NCR data and report root cause analysis.

  • Develop quality control plans and inspection plans for new and existing products.

  • Identify quality hold points and inspection methods to ensure product conformance.

  • Develop first article requirements for subcontract and internal processes.

  • Development in-process inspection plans and provide training to hourly staff on inspection methods and requirements

  • Coordinate with internal inspectors and 3rd party contractors to schedule in-house inspections.

  • Reduce the total cost of quality through:

  • Root Cause Analysis

  • Corrective and Preventive Action

  • Use of Quality Tools

  • Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma

  • Provide Quality analysis and support in areas of manufacturing as directed

  • Develop and maintain procedures and processes to ensure the quality of OE products.

  • Complete internal ISO audits and product audits

  • Identify and lead quality activities for Milwaukee Operations or at subcontract locations as directed

Education / Qualification

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering or other technical discipline preferred.

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in Quality Assurance.

  • Strong knowledge of metal manufacturing methods for welding, machining and mechanical assemblies.

  • Strong knowledge in problem solving and root cause analysis utilizing tools such as fishbone, three legged 5-why, 8D, Fault Tree analysis, etc.

  • Basic knowledge of castings, forgings, gearing, hydraulics and electronics.

  • Knowledge of quality methods, statistics, problem solving techniques and corrective and preventive action systems.

  • Experience with implementing and managing an ISO 9001 Quality Management System or equivalent.

  • Basic knowledge in SAP or an equivalent ERP business system.

  • Experience with Microsoft office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.

  • Strong quality planning background, including control plans, inspection plans, verification and validation test plans and FMEA.

  • ASQ certifications / six sigma experience preferred but not required.

Click on any of the icons below to connect with Materion on social media. JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE The Quality Engineer I is a key member of the Quality team. The individual will be actively involved in all aspects of the Quality System and Quality Improvement Plan with the aim to meet or exceed agreed quality targets. The Quality Engineer reports directly to the Quality Manager or Senior QE (based on business needs). ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES * Supervisory Requirements: * Acts as a back up to the Senior QE and or Quality Engineer II. * Acts safely and ethically at all times and is responsible for the quality department's safety performance. Upholds and acts according to our values, mission, and vision. * Continuous Improvement: * Will be part of project teams for continuous improvement utilizing Six Sigma & Lean techniques that improve key metrics (Cost of Quality, Customer Complaint metrics, Yield) and Supplier Quality. * Completes a minimum of 1 CI project per year. * Aides in developing metrics that track and report status of the overall business Quality System (i.e. Cost of Quality, customer complaints, product non-conformances, etc). * Works with process teams to ensure training occurs on new/revised processes and to ensure documentation adheres to the developed "standard". * Drive process quality improvements working with Process Engineering through the implementation of automated process controls, SPC, sampling systems, enhanced manufacturing procedures, FMEA and Control Plans and utilization of statistical techniques. Audit process controls implemented for compliance. * Customer Requirements: * Will be part of project teams for Problem Solving Processes (8D, 5 Why, 7D, etc) to resolve Customer complaints, Customer audit findings or Return Material Authorizations in a timely manner that prevents reoccurrence. * Develops reports to meet customer needs and frequently interacts with Customers. * Assists Sales and Operations with Customer requirements and specifications. * Member of customer audits and customer visit teams. * Quality Management System: * Provides support to the Quality Manager to maintain requirements for the Quality Management System. * Provides support for the Quality Management System which includes Document Control, Calibration, Corrective & Preventative Actions, Complaints, etc. * Perform periodic internal audits of the quality management system. Develop action plans to address findings. Prepares for and coordinates internal process audits. * Develops standard operating procedures for all processes related to the Quality Management System. * Works with Suppliers on discrepant material issues and Supplier Requests for Change. * Standardize the calibration of inspection and test equipment. Calibration duties include knowledge of calibration of micrometers, calipers, depth gages, etc. Coordinates equipment calibration from outside sources. Maintains calibration database and ensures on-time performance of scheduled calibration. * Train and inform company personnel on quality standards and procedures. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE * Bachelor's Degree in a technical field required. * Metallurgy, material science, chemistry or chemical engineering degree preferred. * Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred or 2-3yrs of Continuous Improvement experience. * Prefer experience and knowledge of manufacturing systems, the quality function and technical products. * Further experience with calibration, metrology and quality system auditing will be beneficial. #CB Materion Milwaukee WI
