SCOPE

The position of Quality Engineer requires a very organized individual able to complete requests, activities, and projects on time and with a high level of quality and accuracy. This position is accountable and responsible for establishing and maintaining a vendor qualification program, for setting of appropriate methods and specifications, for the testing and disposition of incoming materials and outbound products, and for assuring the Retentions and Holds area is properly managed.

All food safety and quality requirements as described in the guidelines presented in the SQF code as well as in company policies and procedures must be carried out as described. This position requires excellent leadership, great attention to detail and excellent documentation of permanent records for use by the company and its customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Maintain a work environment committed to sustainable safety by enforcing safety rules, setting a safe example, coaching and communicating to department associates the reasons for safe operations.

  • Setting of appropriate tests and specifications for inbound and finished product materials using scientific knowledge and production and QC supervisor inputs to define critical measurements

  • Establish and maintain appropriate sampling requirements and AQL expectations

  • Disposition raw materials, components, and products

  • Manage a supplier/vendor qualification program that includes a defined sustainable program which includes: audits, communication (internal and external), quality agreement, and other requirements as necessary to assure the receipt of high quality materials and establishment of excellent partner relationship in coordination with Purchasing.

  • Establish clear and sustainable communication pathways with DC management, Procurement and Production

  • Assure all sample and record retentions meet compliance requirements and are appropriately secured and documented

  • Assure the HOLD areas at the DC and Plant are maintained properly, all items are documented, and disposition is completed in a timely manner (initial disposition within 24 hours).

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements for this position include:

  • B.S. Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, or related field is highly desired

  • Food processing experience preferred, with at least 2 years in manufacturing environment under FDA and HACCP.

  • Strong scientific background performing product testing and/or setting specifications

  • Leadership experience

  • HACCP Certification from a nationally / internationally recognized and accredited HACCP training firm or ability to obtain certification

  • Thorough knowledge of quality system requirements

  • Must have strong organizational and leadership skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross functional departments within an organization

  • Experience managing supplier relationships

  • Strong communication skills required both verbal and written

  • Excellent problem solving skills and corrective action/resolution skills

  • Strong computer skills with experience using Word, Excel, Power Point.

  • SysPro experience is a plus.

  • Bend and lift objects of up to 50 pounds.
