Spring Hill Manufacturing site operations consist of a flexible Vehicle Assembly plant and a Global Propulsion Systems plant. The vehicle plant, which produces the Cadillac XT5, Cadillac XT6 and GMC Acadia, includes a stamping facility, body shop, paint shop and a polymer injection molding operation. The engine plant builds 4-cylinder and 8-cylinder engines. Engines and stampings are supplied to various GM assembly plants globally. We operate out of a 6.9 million sq. ft. facility with a 2100 acre campus, and our workforce is over 3,000 strong.

The Quality Engineering (QE) Group is a part of the Spring Hill Manufacturing Quality Organization. The QE group is divided into four main areas of expertise - Exterior, Interior, Chassis and Electrical.

We consider our customers' needs in everything that we do. We fix problems, and we become good at what we do when we fix problems fast, effectively and get the solution right the first time. We move with a sense of urgency - after all, we produce a vehicle roughly every minute, and speed is really of the essence. The areas of problem solving we focus on are supplier and engineering related that impede the building of the vehicle or its performance in the field.

The ability to:

  • Manage daily project requests and prioritize your work well.

  • Identify the root-cause of problems through quick, efficient problem-solving.

  • Communicate status/findings to appropriate teams effectively

  • Navigate complexity without getting bogged down.

  • Develop and execute quick containments with robust long-term solutions to different problems as they arise.

  • Present the Assembly Plant and Engineering Staff with clear problem definition, technical guidance on complex problems, and regular updates on progress.

  • Support Launch of new products in the plant when applicable.

  • Support off-shift(s) and weekend production as required.

Day-to-day Responsibilities:

  • Successfully manage multiple projects with broad scope and varying degrees of difficulty.

  • Fix supplier quality and engineering issues impacting Global Customer Audit (GCA), Direct Run Rate (DRR), Warranty and Compass.

  • Solve problems using Red X and other problem solving tools as applicable.

  • Develop quality standards and procedures for the plant.

  • Manage emerging issues on commodities you own.

  • Assist production in preventing defects and recommend process improvements.

  • Work with Launch Team on new vehicle builds.

  • Collaborate with suppliers to address SPPS's (Supplier Practical Problem Solving) issued and ensure robust corrective action.

  • Share Lessons Learned with Engineering to prevent repeat design or build issues.

  • Review nonconforming parts and sub-assemblies for proper initial disposition and root cause.

  • Coordinate periodic system and process audits at the plant and supplier facilities.

  • Support quality evaluation of new vehicles with engineering and production.

  • Coordinate engineering change implementation and assist in running PTR's (Production Trial Runs).

  • Support execution of all GMS (Global Manufacturing System) requirements.

Additional Job Description

Skills and Qualifications (Required):

  • Associates degree with relevant experience OR Bachelors degree

  • Ability to pull part prints, read drawings, understand GD&T, and work with Vis mockup / GDIS.

  • Good understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC).

  • Extensive experience with problem solving processes and tools with capability to identify solutions for unusual and complex problems.

  • Demonstrates ability to attain results while balancing technical solutions with business imperatives (safety, people, quality, responsiveness, cost and environment).

  • Working knowledge and capacity to effectively operate in all areas of the Assembly Plant production process.

Skills and Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering

  • Familiarity with Plant Quality systems/applications including GSIP and GEPICS

  • Familiarity with Engineering & Supplier Quality systems/applications including ECM, PRTS, SPPS, GQTS, TeamCenter and PAD's

  • Familiarity with Engineering Change Management including ECR's, TCR's and parts release processes

  • Knowledge of PPQP, APQP and PPAP requirements

  • Supplier audit experience

  • Red X Journeyman Certification

  • DFSS Black Belt Certification

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer

  • Working knowledge of Global Manufacturing System (GMS) requirements.

The Quality Engineer will be responsible to manage the Quality process for the Quality department. This will include; track engineering changes, produce PPAP/PSW packages for Customer, present PSW status to management and Customer, Enter data into Customer systems, such as GQTS. The Quality Engineer will also be responsible to assist in investigating quality issues, and following up with suppliers. The position will also involve preparing reports and presentations for management. JOB DUTIES: * Prepare PPAP/PSW packages for Customer, and reviews Supplier PPAP/PPSR information. * Maintains the Customer QPN database for PSW promise dates, and PPAP submissions. * Manages engineering changes through the quality department, participates in internal & external engineering change control meetings. * Coordinates APQP for New Programs and Product changes. * Review and analyze warranty data for the Division. * Determines quality improvement parameters by identifying statistical methods relevant to manufacturing processes. * Establishes statistical confidence by identifying sample size and acceptable error; determining levels of confidence. * Establishes statistical reliability by using mean time before failure, weibull 3-parameter distribution, reliability modeling, and reliability demonstration tests. * Lead cross functional teams to develop Corrective and Preventive Action for Customer, Supplier and Production. * Develops sampling plans by applying attribute, variable, and sequential sampling methods. * Assist / be a leader in IAFT 16949 Element champion as required * Potential responsibility to for IATF 16949 Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor as required. * Ensuring that processes needed for quality management system are established, implemented and maintained. * Reporting to top management on the performance of the quality management system and any need for improvement. * Ensuring the promotion of awareness of customer requirements throughout the organization. * Development of Control Plan and PFMEA, participate in RPN reduction meetings * Conduct root cause analysis of quality issues * Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data; making recommendations. * Analyzes data by completing hypothesis, normal distribution, and process capability analysis tests. * Completes QR's for supplier rejections, tracks open issues, 4D & 8D responses, and supplier score cards. * Review of customer specific requirements to ensure compliance within the internal system.
