GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Responsible to identify opportunities to improve current processes and implement sustainable long-term corrective actions to meet company objectives and customer quality expectations.
The Quality Engineer is the leading Quality Management resource for the site, responsible for monitoring, auditing, and supporting activities to improve quality management practices and procedures to ensure the quality of goods being produced. This includes analyzing specifications and statistical data to develop procedures to meet both internal and external expectation and ensure internal processes and metrics are aligned to create the highest quality product. This position will support efforts in developing, and validating opportunities in quality improvements, cost savings, and R&D objectives to develop new products. Will also facilitate the qualification process for alternative sources of supply as they relate to our supply chain. Mentor personnel in the use of statistics, customer requirements and advanced quality systems, plus identifying and removing waste to reduce the total cost of quality. Performs all other duties as requested.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quality Management System:
Drive QMS objectives to achieve and maintain best practices in accordance with certified system standards, company policies, and customer expectations.
Analyze problems, determine root causes, and take effective corrective action:
Records and interprets data, summarizes and prepares memos and reports. Includes complete data analysis and makes recommendations to project leaders.
Establishes experimental procedures (DOE) to solve complicated problems. Analyzes and interprets results (SPC), makes recommendations, and proposes deadlines for completion.
Work with Manufacturing for process improvement:
Annually reviews manufacturing specifications regarding process capability for trending and improvements.
Investigates customer quality issues and provides feedback, supports or champions corrective action.
Implement quality tools that will allow process monitoring and improvement
Facilitate efforts to reduce Cost of Quality, e.g. internal failure costs, external failure costs, prevention costs and appraisal costs.
Review Supplier processes and identify improvement opportunities to reduce defect rates and improve overall quality of materials and timing.
Ongoing testing/verification of raw material physical properties
Provide support to maintain Quality documentation, customer concerns, procedures, internal and external corrective actions.
Work with R&D in the approval of new or replacement/substitute materials
Support raw material-related projects with R&D for commercialization of new products and new raw material qualification.
Participate in and/or initiate cross functional teams in the pursuit of problem solving and mistake proofing quality problems
Work with Engineering, EHS, and Manufacturing to drive internal corrective actions to reduce variation and improve quality and efficiency.
Work with R&D, Purchasing, and Manufacturing to qualify alternate raw materials and sourcing
Support R&D, Engineering, and Manufacturing to qualify new products and/or packaging
Monitor KPIs monthly and interact with Manufacturing and Engineering to improve negative trends.
Effective problem-solving skills to identified functions in the plant (i.e. quality, engineering, etc.)
Work with counterpart at supplier facilities to reduce defect rates and improve overall quality of incoming materials (e.g. Coated Film).
Responsible for working within the Operations and QA functions throughout MGS (Regional, and
Facility levels). The position interacts with R&D, Operations, and Technical functions of all MacDermid Graphics Solutions Inc
EXTERNAL BOUNDARIES:This position has many direct interactions with outside external organizations and functions such as customers, LRQA, Suppliers/Vendors, etc.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Certification as a Quality (CQE) and/or Quality Auditor (CQA) is preferred, including lead auditor training for ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001-2015
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
