Position Summary

The Quality Engineer supports the Quality Manager in implementing lean manufacturing processes, and supports efforts in maintaining the quality management system. Additional responsibilities include supporting the Company's quality initiatives by performing visual, and dimensional inspections coupled with documentation reviews to ensure compliance with quality and performance standards. This position has a key role in interacting effectively with the Engineering, Manufacturing, Customer Service, and Materials Management.

Key Job Responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • Develops, maintains, and analyses product non-conformances from all sources to determine areas to focus improvements.

  • Follows established procedures and guidelines to check, test and inspect raw materials, goods in process, and finished goods.

  • Compares the physical characteristics of components, materials, equipment and products to technical specifications to identify defects

  • Investigates the causes of product defects and implements changes for mitigating recurrence.

  • Familiarity with managing customer and 3rd party portals and performance requirements.

  • Familiarity with 5 Why and 8Ds Corrective Action/Preventive Action root analysis methodologies

  • Monitors and improves controls of calibrated measuring equipment

  • Assists and participates in the performance of Internal Quality Audits

  • Responsible for coordinating maintenance of Quality lab and equipment

  • Inspects work pieces at beginning of and throughout production run to ensure proper tolerances.

  • Ensures that all responsibilities and functions are performed are in accordance with company policy and procedures and meet required quality standards.

  • Utilizes Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies for measuring and controlling quality during the manufacturing process.

  • Operating and programming both Leitz and Brown & Sharpe CMM's

  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively use all necessary measuring tools. (micrometers,calipers, gage pines, thread gages, height gage etc.)

  • Familiarity with APQP processes {PFMEAs, Control Plans, R&R gage studies}.

  • Develops and controls calibration schedules of the measurement instrument.

  • Assists in the development of standardized work processes and process improvements.

  • Assists in the implementation of ISO initiatives.

Education and Certification Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Mechanical Engineering or other related field, or equivalent work experience

  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE); other ASQ certifications are highly desirable

  • Formal problem-solving certifications {Root Cause Analysis} desirable

  • 3 to 5 years' quality experience in a manufacturing setting.
