The BorgWarner Transmission Systems is the world's leading supplier of components and systems for automatic transmissions. We also offer control systems for all-wheel drives and powerful transmissions for hybrid and electric vehicles to our global customers

To strengthen our team we are looking for a Quality Engineer at our Bellwood, IL Manufacturing site.

Position Summary

Promote the continuous improvement function within Quality Systems. Provide expertise, support and perform quality audits within the BorgWarner Transmission Systems -Bellwood facility to drive high quality product builds. Job requires ability to prioritize multiple tasks and allocate resources to deliver high impact results.

Key Accountabilities Your Profile

  • Focus on Quality, Continuous Improvement and the auditing system to ensure compliance to Quality policy and procedure, which have a direct impact upon on-time delivery and product quality.

  • Work with manufacturing to develop, train and audit production processes according to the IATF 16949 through the Quality System.

  • Utilizes Engineering skills to help the organization to reduce process variation and customer concerns.

  • Familiarity with the Quality System auditing, supervision of layout and PPAP function and continuous improvement processes, such as statistical process control.

  • Emphasis is placed on leadership ability and working directly with all levels of employees.

  • 3+ years Quality experience

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or related technical field

  • SPC experience and Six Sigma exposure

The incumbent has the authority to manage the operation in accordance with BW Bellwood policies and procedures by delegating work to the team leaders and utilizing the support staff, such as engineering, skill trades, accounting, purchasing, quality, and human resources as needed.Manage individual and team skill learning, leading to individual employee and department continuous improvement. Encourage employee involvement by facilitating team critical thinking, problem solving and decision making. Facilitate team communication and conflict resolution including team learning of process or interpersonal skills. Evaluate teamwork and provide feedback, including providing opportunities for team critiques and encouraging members to monitor and correct their own work. Participate in teamwork day activities as discussed between incumbent and direct supervisor. Maintain safety, ergonomic, and environmental compliance within OSHA, ISO 14000 and mandated regulations. Effectively employ the aforementioned accountabilities to insure a union-free environment at Bellwood. Support and insure process improvements and new process introductions are implemented to meet quality, cost and timing objectives. Ensure 100% compliance with Safety, Housekeeping, Process Set-up & Validation, Material Identification, Control Plans, Gage Calibration, Non-Conforming/Discrepant Material & Change Notice. A written process must be documented for each of the processes and an audit/feedback method must be used to ensure all team members comply with the requirements for each process. Improve quality as measured in defects/million each year. Quality improvement is achieved through 100% compliance with the plant processes followed by definable actions based knowledge gained by mastering the skill of the 8-D problem solving process. Ensures compliance with 100% on-time delivery to weekly schedule. Delivery compliance is achieved through knowledge of process flow, constraint theory, up-time management and capacity planning. Productivity improvement is achieved when team members are effectively utilized while applying the two principles of waste elimination and increasing throughput. Demonstrates the desire to learn and grow as a member of the Bellwood family. Every leader in the Bellwood Manufacturing Team is expected to role model behavior not dictate behavior. Lead by example and be driven by teamwork. Bachelor's Degree a plus. Candidates with previous experience working in or leading a group in a manufacturing environment or who are working as manufacturing engineers or have previously worked can apply. Preference will be given to candidates with an Engineering degree.
