Job Description 1

Position Summary:

The Quality Engineer is an intermediate professional generally with 2+ years of experience. The engineer will utilize a wide range of knowledge and professional skills to drive Quality Engineering and Continuous Improvement initiatives and projects. The candidate will be the focal point for interfacing Quality Assurance issues with internal and external customers/suppliers ensuring compliance to the appropriate requirements including non-conformance analysis and implementation of effective countermeasures.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support organization growth of AS9100 and NADCAP processes.

  • Conduct internal/supplier audits to ensure customer requirements, regulatory agencies, government regulations, and engineering specifications are proper.

  • Host client and regulatory audits, manage responses/resolution, and audit follow-up.

  • Provide leadership to drive root cause analysis and ensure effective Corrective/Preventive Action plans are implemented.

  • Audit sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data. Establishes program to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities.

  • Perform purchase order and contract reviews to ensure complete flow-down of requirements throughout various facets of the organization.

  • Contributes to the development of planning department documents to assure a quality plan is in place to produce conforming product in the most efficient manner.

  • Perform material review board (MRB) duties representing quality engineering. Produce methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material and devices methods to assess cost and determine root cause. Monitors and follows up on proposed corrective actions to verify implementation and effectiveness.

  • Ensure continual compliance and improvement to the quality management system procedures and processes. (use of FMEA, 5WHY, 8D ,..etc.)

  • Manages company calibration and understands the metrology behind it.

  • Evaluate and monitor suppliers to manage/publish supplier performance metrics, develop and lead projects to improve outsource processes.

  • Train and develop workers engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality and reliability as well as those who perform quality systems reviews and audits. Trains employees in quality issues, appraises the performance of employees during audits for reporting to management, addresses quality complaints, and resolves quality related problems as assigned by management.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

  • Ability to effectively present information to top management and groups of supervisors and managers using tools like PowerPoint and Excel software programs.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Able to apply statistical tools for the purpose of continual improvement of products and processes, this will include the use of internal SPC database, collection of characteristic data, and compilation of reports utilizing software such as Excel to produce histograms, Pareto charts, bell curves, etc.

  • A thorough understanding of advanced statistics and Six Sigma applications is preferred

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Must be proficient with computer software, particularly Microsoft Office suite of programs.

  • AS9100 Lead Auditor Certification

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, but not required.

Experience & Education

  • S. degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field from an Accredited Institution required.

  • Lean/Six Sigma Certification preferred.

  • 2+ years manufacturing experience in a quality engineering field with aerospace customer

  • 2+ years working directly with customers and suppliers.

  • Experience with GD&T

  • Experience with ISO / AS9100 / NADCAP

  • AS9100 Auditor Certification

  • CMM, Romer Arm, PC-DMIS experience a plus, but not required.
