Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Environmental Health Safety & Quality (ESHQ) group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Quality Director! Our team works onsite with a 9x80 schedule located at our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.

You will report to the Executive Director. As the leader of the Quality Division, You will need to provide your team with inspirational Leadership, embrace culture of continuous improvement, clearly articulate goals and a compelling vision for the Quality division. Ability to make informed decisions, while promoting an environment where feedback is encouraged., Implement clear strategies that support all areas of the Idaho National Laboratory that includes Nuclear and Non-Nuclear areas. Be a mentor for your team to help them meet their full potential.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Site-Wide Quality Division and INL Quality Assurance Program including quality engineer and inspection support for INL facilities (e.g., REC, ATR, MFC, RPS, NHL, CFA, SMC), new reactors, research, procurement, construction, fabrication, machine shops, boiler and pressure vessel inspection program, non-conformance reporting program, suspect/counterfeit items, and Lab wide inspector certification.

  • Develop Quality strategies and establish documented operating procedures for implementation of quality requirements and standards. Ensure such processes are aligned and integrated with other management systems and are deployed appropriately.

  • Identify, interpret, and adjudicate differences of opinion in quality standards and requirements. Work within broadly defined guidelines to provide effective and efficient quality oversight of all activities.

  • Manage subordinate quality management and experienced quality specialist employees who exercise significant latitude and independence. Lead the Quality Division, provide mentorship to staff, perform succession planning for Quality, and coordinate resources.

  • Advise and assist organizations implementing quality.

  • Implement Lab wide quality improvements. Collaborate with Environmental, Safety, Health, and Quality (ESH&Q) Directorate regarding organizational strategy.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the ESH&Q Director.

  • Perform or direct the performance of administrative responsibilities to include budget preparation and administration, staffing, employee relations, personnel development, employee performance appraisals, salary administration, promotions/demotions, recognition programs, and other required administrative or personnel actions.

  • Provide ongoing and accurate communications with the ESH&Q Director, DOE, and other partners.

  • Articulate Quality principles through writings and presentations to a diverse audience, including staff, senior executives, other DOE laboratories, and DOE officials.

  • Develop consensus with a broad spectrum of partners including internal and external organizations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors of Science in engineering or other scientific field, with 15 years quality related experience, or advanced degree and 13 years quality related experience.

  • 5 years demonstrated experience managing nuclear quality programs implementing 10 CFR 830, Subpart A, or 10 CFR 50, Appendix B.

  • Demonstrated line management success in the development of staff.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Desired Experience

  • Quality experience in the following nuclear disciplines: Engineering, Operations, or Research.

  • Experience with application of quality principles in inspection, testing, fabrication, procurement, or construction environments.

  • Experience developing, applying, or implementing various codes and standards, including B&PV, ASME Section III, ANSI, AWS, ASNT.

  • Previously or currently qualified/certified as an NQA-1 Lead Auditor.

  • Experience managing or deploying audit teams.

Job Information:

  • Salary Grade: The target pay range for this position is ( $156,880 - $224,273). The full pay range is ( $121,920 - $316,992). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
