Quality Control Technician (2nd Shift)

Description

The Quality Control Technician is primarily responsible for carrying out quality control functions in the shipping, mill, or packaging departments of all incoming and outgoing products by following SQF guidelines and meeting customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tests and inspects the products in appropriate departments (shipping, receiving, packaging) at various stages of the production process and compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain the quality and reliability of products.

  • Performs quality control functions in Shipping, Receiving or Packaging departments by collecting and evaluating production samples, ensuring that materials and products meet acceptable quality and integrity standards.

  • Performs a variety of continuous Quality Control checks during production and on finished goods to ensure product quality and packaging meet required customer specifications and food safety guidelines

  • Maintains consistent quality standards on all incoming and outgoing paperwork for the product.

  • Documents Quality Control checks per required guidelines accurately and timely.

  • Communicates necessary information to Machine Operators, Leads, or Supervisors/Managers regarding product quality and packaging defects discovered during control checks.

  • Checks weights on inbound rail cars and schedules and releases rail cars as necessary.

  • Coordinates efforts with production management to grade inbound bulk products, records grade and advises management of non-conforming bulk for disposition.

  • Pulls and ships outbound samples for customers.

  • Communicates variation Housekeeping and National Food Safety standards to the Quality Control Supervisor as they occur.

  • Monitors and completes necessary documentation with grade and lot information.

  • Ensures that all QC documentation is complete and accurate.

  • Maintains daily milling log and communicates with operators of next item to clean.

  • Performs cycle counts to make for proper stock rotation as needed.

  • Checks product from packaging lines every hour or two hours and verifies change over schedules.

  • Communicates with management and other maintenance personnel on a timely basis to facilitate maintenance and repairs.

  • Ceases production when severe product defects or risks arise.

  • Complies with company safety policies and maintains clean and orderly work area and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) procedures, including timely and accurate documentation of required SQF forms.

  • Complies with company safety policies and maintains a clean and orderly work area.

  • Coordinates efforts with production management to grade inbound bulk products, records grade and advises management of non-conforming bulk for disposition.

  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Minimum of one (1) year of Quality Control experience in a food environment preferred

  • Valid driver license in good standing

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  • Intermediate Math skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Basic computer knowledge and use of touch screens

  • Thorough understanding of quality control standards and methodology

  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage priorities and workflow

  • Flexibility and willingness to work within constantly changing priorities, accommodate unscheduled changes in duties, and work overtime as needed

  • Must display a positive attitude and work well with all levels of personnel, whether individually or in a team environment

  • Effectively communicate questions, problems, and reports to co-workers, supervisory and management personnel
