WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The Quality Control (QC) Supervisor is responsible for carrying out quality control functions in shipping, processing, and packaging departments. This position is responsible for monitoring the quality of all incoming and outgoing product by following the guidance of SQF food safety standards as well as Trinidad/Benham Corp.'s customer operational and quality requirements.

  • Ensures the quality control programs related to food packaging are consistently applied and enforced with all products and processes.

  • Strives for Continuous Improvement in all processes (safety, quality, productivity, and cost). Improvements should include a thorough analysis using quantitative data (costs and savings) to support the effectiveness of the recommendation.

  • Maintains consistent quality standards on all incoming and outgoing product. Directs and performs testing and inspection of product at various stages of the production process to ensure these standards are met.

  • Communicates variations/non-conformances in Food Safety standards to the Plant Manager as they occur.

  • Directs and performs product grade sampling for all incoming bulk product; maintain sample levels as required.

  • Monitors and completes necessary documentation with grade and lot information.

  • Monitors quality alerts and respond to requests for information regarding customer complaints.

  • Facilitates sample requests as needed.

  • Ability to act as SQF (Safe Quality Food) Practitioner, ensuring food packaging safety, food defense and quality standards are documented and followed.

  • Acts as an instrumental part of audits related to SQF; ensuring the necessary documentation is complete and up to date.

  • Facilitates training for all employee owners in SQF including Food Safety and GMP's.

  • Oversees Sanitation department and ensures sanitation practices comply with SQF standards and regulations in order to prevent contamination of the product.

  • Coordinates, hires, trains, supervises, motivates, develops, and provides feedback/coaching to QC Technician and Sanitation employees.

  • Ensures employees understand their departmental priorities and goals and ensures the department is staffed to match priorities while also optimizing departmental efficiencies.

  • Organize and plan the schedule and workload of QC Technician and Sanitation employees.

  • Ensures proactive management of the staffing plan and coordination of training of appropriate personnel to minimize downtime and create cross-training opportunities.

  • Ensures positive work environment in alignment with Trinidad Benham values, corporate policies and procedures, and government rules and regulations.

  • Notify HR and or Plant Manager concerning a behavior, safety, attendance, attitude or any other issue, which is affecting an employee's ability to perform his or her job effectively.

  • Resolves employee issues in coordination with HR Manager and utilizes progressive coaching techniques.

  • Must be an active participant in meetings.

  • Communicates with management and other maintenance personnel on a timely basis to facilitate maintenance and repairs.

  • Complies with company safety policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) procedures. Including timely and accurate documentation of required SQF forms.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by Plant Manager and Corporate QA Manager.

WHAT WE NEED

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:

  • Bachelor's Degree or 5 years of Quality Control supervisory experience.

  • 3-5 years of Quality Control experience in a food manufacturing environment.

  • SQF, HACCP/HARPC knowledge.

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Driver License in good standing.

  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish preferred. Must be able to speak/read/write fluently in English.

  • Flexibility and willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.

  • Must be able to effectively manage time by organizing and planning work and delegate responsibilities as needed.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present and train in a group setting.

  • Effectively communicate questions, problems and reports to co-workers, supervisory and management personnel.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as seasonality of business demands.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

  • Solid Math/Computer skills

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) required to: stand and/or walk, use ladders and climb stairs, bend and stoop, reach, push/pull, kneel and crouch. Use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls, to verbally communicate; and to hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Frequently exposed to a non-climate controlled environment.

  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) exposed to dust and loud noise.

  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) exposed to machinery and mechanical, moving parts.

  • Personal protective equipment, such as hearing protection, safety glasses, hair net and food safety related items, is required.
