Job Summary:

The Quality Control Lab Supervisor supervises, organizes, directs and measures all activities within the Analytical and Microbiology department to achieve the highest levels of safety, service, quality, and productivity. This position will ultimately be responsible for the all the tactical plans and activities that achieve the strategic direction set forth by the QC Lab Manager, Director of Quality, Vice President of Operations and other applicable Senior Leadership.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Motivates, coaches and develops the lab team to deliver optimal results, continuous improvement, profitability, quality, service and overall operational excellence.

  • Communicates performance expectations to team members and provides coaching to reinforce positive performance when appropriate.

  • Develops a high-performing, self-directed lab team that works cross-functionally with other departments.

  • Develops policies and procedures that ensure proper accountability and assists in developing long-term plans for the quality organization.

  • Plans and manages, with the input of the QC Lab Manager, the activities of the lab to ensure goals for site and lab metrics are met.

  • Identifies, leads, and drives opportunities around equipment and/or methods to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), LEAN Lab principles and quality requirements.

  • Controls operational costs, including but not limited to standard labor costs, inventory costs, scrap rates and equipment downtime, to ensure the production department operates within the set budget.

  • Coordinates with other departments on planning and scheduling lab coverage, preventative maintenance, and other related activities.

  • Collaborates with the QC Lab Manager and Leads to establish and/or revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), analyst qualifications and best practices for the analytical and microbiology department.

  • Directs and performs all work in a manner that is consistent with the company's quality system, cGLP and FDA good manufacturing practices, includes maintaining a clean and orderly lab area at all times.

  • Coordinates and participates in root cause Analysis, CAPA and Failure Investigations.

  • Develops and executes corrective actions that improve lab performance, cost, quality, and customer service.

  • Follows, promotes and enforces KDC's safety and environmental policies, practices and procedures.

  • Assists with safety investigations and corrective actions related to safety hazards and/or incidents.

  • Drives the execution of training to ensure all production employees have received necessary training and are following all applicable SOP's, Work Instructions, and GMP procedures.

  • Prepares trend reports and performance metrics for weekly and monthly lab reports.

  • Reviews investigations of non-conformities to assure that root cause has been identified and appropriate corrective and preventative actions are implemented. Participates in investigations and leads when appropriate.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • BS in Chemistry, Microbiology, Biology or related science field.

  • Strong experience using various laboratory equipment and aseptic sampling techniques.

  • SAP experience, desired.

  • Two years supervisory/leadership experience required, preferably in a quality control lab environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively build and lead a high-performing and engaged team.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, leadership skills and organizational skills.

  • Self-starter with strong work ethic, positive attitude, and strong attention to detail.

  • Strong communication (both written and oral), interpersonal, team building and organizational skills.

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and manage time efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to promote and participate in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.

  • Strong technical skills and experience in analytical problem solving.

  • Ability to plan ahead to minimize potential issues that may affect the company's growth objectives.

  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)

  • Good understanding of FDA Good Laboratory Practices Regulations, GMP's and OSHA safety requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older.

  • Able to work overtime & weekends as required.

  • Able to periodically work other shifts to support business needs.

  • Read, comprehend, and follow written and verbal instructions, including SOPs.

Working Conditions:

  • Good working conditions; climate controlled.

  • Exposure to frequent movement of motorized equipment throughout production floor, including electric pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.

  • Wear hairnet, safety glasses, long pants, steel toe shoes/boots and any other uniform standards.

  • Sit, bend, stoop, climb, and stand for long periods of time in one place.

  • Lift items up to 50lbs.
