Position Details:
Title: Quality Control Scientist
Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate for this role will have a 4-year degree in a technical field, with 0-3 years lab experience. Manufacturing environment a plus.
Schedule: 1 Opening on 1st Shift: 7:00 am
3:30 pm / 1 Opening on 2nd Shift: 2:30 pm
11:00 pm, M-F
Position Overview:
Quality control is an integral department within the Company. Quality Control personnel are responsible for ensuring that all products leaving our facilities meet or exceed all applicable quality and customer requirements. Quality control personnel enable the operations and supply chain teams to work efficiently via prompt completion of product testing and inspections, and collaborative resolution of quality issues.
Job Functions:
Perform organoleptic, physical property, analytical and wet chemistry tests on raw materials, intermediates and bulk, final products.
Perform inspections on packaging components, labels and packaged/filled goods.
Issue minor adjustments, correction requests, status updates and approvals
Under the guidance of Level 2/3 QC scientists and management, issue rework/process deviation instructions, significant adjustments for out of trend batches and rejections.
Review production documentation (batch records) and issue correction requests.
Identify and communicate quality issues to Level 2/3 QC Scientists and management.
Produce customer specialty samples as directed by management
Generate and complete quality control related documents, such as certificates of analysis (COAs) and out of specification (OOS) reports.
Participate in the general upkeep of the laboratory, document storage and sample retain areas
Work safely with hazardous chemicals and waste
Perform special testing, investigations and experiments under the direction of Level 2/3 QC scientists and laboratory management.
Qualifications:
0-3 years' experience in a laboratory environment
Proficient ability to view and differentiate color (as measured by Farnsworth-Munsell color test - or equivalent)
Good verbal and written communication skills
Good interpersonal skills
Good decision-making skills
Good organizational skills
Good attention to detail
Proficient Math skills - unit conversion, ratio, percentage
Computer proficient
Ability to use MS Office applications; Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
Education/Certifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a technical field (chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or similar); or
Associate's Degree (or completion of comparable coursework) in a technical field with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
Safety:
Complies with all safety regulations; maintains a safe work environment at all times.
Adheres to always wearing the proper PPE/Safety equipment.
Understands and complies with all written safety, health, and environmental procedures.
Attends all required scheduled Health, Safety and Environmental training sessions.
Participates in required Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives and programs.
Perform required administrative functions related to Health, Safety and Environmental functions such as completing forms, checklists, and log sheets.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Physical Demands: Employee is required to walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. Ability to work in an upright and/or stationary position for 6-8 hours per day. Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, or repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists to operate lab equipment. Ability to wear/use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required such as lab coat, goggles, gloves, masks, etc. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 40 pounds daily. In addition, the employee must be able to occasionally maneuver and move 30 to 55-gallon drums or up to 450 pounds utilizing proper drum material handling equipment and/or the proper techniques.
Work Environment: This position requires one to work primarily in a laboratory and office environment, with occasional work in a manufacturing environment. There is a moderate level of noise, dust and dirt. Employees frequently work near moving mechanical equipment and on occasion, may be exposed to varying temperatures, fumes, or airborne particles. Employees must be capable of handling various chemicals, including hazardous chemicals, using the appropriate PPE and engineering controls.
