Summary:

The Quality Control Lab Manager will lead and direct the activities of the laboratory team to ensure the team is meeting safety, quality and other related performance objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads, assigns and manages the activities of the Quality Control Laboratory to ensure optimal results in safety, quality, productivity and cost; leads continuous improvement initiatives in the laboratory and leads strategic planning initiatives.

  • Provides technical leadership and direction in resolving batching related issues or troubleshooting instrumentation outages.

  • Trains, coaches and develops employees within the department to ensure performance expectations and department objectives are met according to established standards; manages performance expectations and delivers feedback.

  • Identifies and recommends new or upgrading of equipment and/or methods to improve productivity and capacity.

  • Monitors, assists or leads investigations related to batching errors, quality defects and or incidents.

  • Serves as advisor to team members regarding vendor/customer challenges and offers support and solutions to daily concerns.

  • Works with other departments and customers to resolve known quality issues, identify opportunities for improvement, and communicate on behalf of KDC/one as needed.

  • Completes employee performance reviews, preliminary budgetary information, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs) and other paperwork according to established company policy.

  • Maintains confidentiality of employee personnel records and salary information; customer and product information and other sensitive and confidential information.

  • Exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works outside of the normal schedule as needed due to workplace demands (e.g. supporting off-shifts). Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, related science field or Engineering is required.

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Laboratory or Quality role; previous experience in beauty/personal care, liquid filling or pharmaceutical manufacturing is strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years previous experience in a supervisory or management role.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite: FDA Good Manufacturing Practices and OSHA Safety Requirements; scientific laboratory work; customer standards and requirements.

  • Skill in: solving problems; prioritizing work to ensure deadlines are met; managing, coaching and developing others;

  • Ability to: manage multiple and competing priorities; resolve difficult situations with no clear direction; adapt to change; develop and maintain good working relationships; lead and develop a high-performing team; develop and maintain processes and workflows; be detail-oriented; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a diverse group of individuals; present information to large and small groups; be organized and work quickly and efficiently with short deadlines; multi-task; read, comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions, including SOPs; work independently and as part of a team; operate a computer; wear required PPE as needed when walking through the facility.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds manually.

  • A climate-controlled office environment; the noise level is usually moderately quiet.

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time in front of a computer, stand for long periods of time when testing samples, walk, use hands to handle and feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, crouch, talk, hear, push and pull

  • Exposure to movement of motorized equipment throughout the facility, including electric pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manages and directs the work of up to 2 exempt employees and 30 non-exempt employees.
