To interpret engineering data such as drawings and specifications and inspect in accordance with the data. Must be able to use standard measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, dial indicators etc. Perform visual and dimensional inspections for receiving, in process, final and first article inspections on aviation parts from details to top assemblies. Must be able to understand visual and cosmetic standards. Must have the ability to clearly write nonconformance reports and assist in corrective actions investigations.


  • Interpret engineering data such as drawings and specifications

  • Competent in using measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators.

  • Perform visual and dimensional inspection

  • Perform receiving, in-process, final, and first article inspections

  • Perform inspections to visual and cosmetic standards

  • Able to write inspection reports and nonconformance reports

  • Able to understand root cause and participate in corrective actions

  • Perform review of supplier certifications for conformance to requirements

  • Data collection for statistical analysis

  • Must understand and be able to interpret tolerances

  • Understand application and use of all types of precision measuring instruments used in mechanical inspection, including interpretations of geometrical and positional tolerance requirements.

  • Travel as required to support suppliers or source/auditing inspection program.


  • A High School Diploma is required.

  • A two year college (Associates degree) or ASQ Certification is desired.

  • Position may be filled with both entry level and experienced candidates.

  • Extended or irregular hours may be required.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. For positions at an ITAR facility, must have U.S. Citizenship or hold Permanent Resident status.

VIEW JOBS 11/28/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-02-26T00:00 Job Summary The Quality Inspector I will perform activities to ensure quality control of products and processes, complete and perform review of Device History Records for release of components, sub-assemblies and/or finished goods ensuring records are accurate and in accordance to operating procedures. The Quality Inspector is responsible for the inspection process as assigned; assignment could be receiving, in-process (PVC, PU and springs areas), final release (PVC, PU and springs areas), and/or shipping area. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Follow and work in accordance with Avalon's polices insuring that Quality System and regulatory requirements are met in an ethical manner. * Meet commitments on time with accuracy and attention to detail. * Perform inspections of purchased parts, subassemblies and/or finished company products according to defined criteria in product documentation (drawing, specification, procedures, or build packages) by visual inspection and/or using standard physical and/ or mechanical measurements, according to procedures and in a timely manner. * Maintains quality standards by approving incoming materials in Receiving Inspection per Acceptable Quality Level. * Proficient in all quality processes and procedures according to the training matrix. * Conduct and document process monitoring audits using documented procedures. * Accurately document the results of the inspections, monitoring and testing. * Maintain all controlled document files and test records in a timely and accurate manner. * Monitor critical equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper operation and calibration. * Participate in the development and/or revision of SOPs for the inspection function. * Evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for possible corrective action to the Quality Supervisor. * Identify and communicate defects or suspect materials to the Quality Supervisor and initiate the NMR process where needed. * Work with Production Management and Quality Assurance to provide feedback to assemblers regarding accuracy of assembly procedures. * Maintain order and cleanliness of Quality stations and cleanrooms to prevent material mixing. * Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by implementing, maintaining and aligning company policies and procedures. * Efficient and appropriate use of resources of the company such as materials, machines, time and others. * Participate in continuous improvement teams when assigned. * Ensure correct completion of all quality records. Verify and ensure data is accurate. * Perform review of Device History Records and other documentation for compliance to established procedures and Good Documentation Practices. * Aware of the use of metrology tools including more sophisticated tools such as scopes, vision systems, and laser micrometers. * Assist in internal, customer, and regulatory audits. * Compiles monthly quality metrics for inclusion in Quality Report and for monthly posting. Based on skill and experience, the Inspector is designated by level as follows: Inspector Level I: * Works under direct supervision while performing inspections per documented procedures. Education and Experience Requirements * High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred. * 2+ year of previous experience as in process inspector is preferred. * One year minimum in Medical Devices Industry (Desirable). * Working knowledge of measurement instruments such as calipers, rulers and pin gages. * Knowledge of calibration and Quality Systems documents. * ASQ Certified Quality Technician (Desirable). * Able to travel at least 10-20% internationally to Mexico and domestically. * Able to work Overtime with the possibility of work on Saturdays. Skills and Abilities * Ability to write and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos in both English and Spanish. * Ability to communicate effectively with operators, partners and supervisors. * Ability to interpret drawings with medium degree of complexity, in English. * Ability to solve practical problems. * High level of attention to detail * Good arithmetic and metrology skills * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. * Considerable knowledge of inspection methods and procedures, including good manufacturing and good documentation practices. * Be motivating, proactive and have ability to promote / create a positive and productive change in people that make up the production team. * Have conciliatory skills in human conflicts. * Basic knowledge to read and interpret drawings, charts, graphs and tables of information. COMPUTER SKILLS: * Basic knowledge in navigation and use of the Windows operating system in a networked environment. * Understanding on the use of some Microsoft Office Tools such as: Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point. * Aptitude to learn new software applications.
