Quality Control Inspector

Carr Lane Manufacturing has an excellent opportunity for a Quality Inspector to work at a nationally recognized manufacturer located in St. Louis, MO. The Quality Inspector will perform tasks following established procedures, inspect and test raw material, in-process, purchased, outside processing and finished items.

Responsibilities of the Job:

  • Participate in the establishment and implementation of quality specifications, testing procedures and standards for raw material, outside processing, purchased, in-process and finished items for compliance to customer requirements, company specifications and procedures, and/or government regulation.

  • Utilize micrometers, calipers and all departmental inspection and test equipment

  • Enforce departmental procedures related to the care, control and monitoring of company inspection equipment, including sign out/in controls. Maintain appropriate records. Perform calibrations of employee gaging to current NIST standards.

  • Read and interpret prints, routings and/or work orders. Follow established discipline and work instructions.

  • Following established discipline and work instructions, perform certification of company and employee gages to externally certified gages. Maintain appropriate records.

  • Prepare Material Rejection Reports in accordance with departmental procedure. Be capable of explaining conditions leading to rejection to the operator, team leads and/or company management.

  • Inspect and/or test items in accordance with work orders, prints, specifications and/or quality plans according to standard departmental procedures and work instructions, recording results of same. Provide feedback to operators on inspection results.

  • Assist new employees in the application of inspection and sampling techniques and process control procedures to ensure production of items meeting quality standards and specifications.

  • Conduct research on product defects and customer complaints under the direction of the Quality Manager.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School graduate with some advanced training in a related area.

  • Minimum 2 3 years' experience as a Quality Inspector in a machine metal working environment

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and easily change tasks as needed

  • Experience with PC DMIS programming on a CMM or Vision System is a plus

  • Experience with microhardness Vickers and Rockwell "C" scale hardness testing a plus

Provides Quality activity coordination and review for combination product related design projects, quality system records and design control procedural deliverable requirements. Coordinates and assists in developing risk assessments and design verification and validation plans, test methods and data analysis of products at the site. Revises SOPs, reviews and approves protocols and reports as needed. Responsible for coordination of Design History File and associated records for assigned products. Role Responsibilities: * Review/Approve impact assessments for CAPA and Change Management records and develop execution plans * Participate in risk assessments, risk mitigation strategies and risk management plans; provide review/approval as needed * Coordinate Design History and Risk File documentation * Utilize Design History and Risk File documents to assess risk resulting from changes, manufacturing events and customer complaints * Perform periodic reviews of Design History and Risk File documents to ensure the files remain reflective of data/trending signals and ongoing activities * Review engineering and development documentation such as product requirements, detail drawings, assembly drawings, tolerance stack analyses, change orders, risk analyses, etc. * Review protocols and reports ensuring adherence to design control procedures and policies * Provide oversight for design verification and validation activities. * Provide input and feedback on new drug delivery systems project deliverables to R&D and other technical teams * Represent the Quality Unit during Design Reviews * Provide Design Control lifecycle, procedure and policy training as necessary * Revise procedures and templates Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science * 3-5 Years Experience in medical device or combination product manufacturing within the Quality function * At minimum 2 years providing direct oversight to the design control lifecycle and DHF * Well versed in ISO13485 and 21CFR820 requirements * Critical thinking ability and attention to detail * Effective technical writing ability and verbal communication skills * Computer skills including MS Office and MiniTab * Demonstrated applied knowledge of Failure Modes Effect Analysis (FMEA), CAPA, Root Cause Analysis and statistical methods as applied to Quality. * Certified Quality Engineer or Six Sigma Black Belt (preferred) * Experience with DHF remediation (preferred) Physical/Mental Requirements: Able to sit and stand for extended periods of time Critical thinking and ability to pay attention to detail While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
