What you will do

Johnson Controls invites you to apply for a position in our Quality & Continuous Improvement department located in Huntsville, AL. Our internship program is designed to provide you with a positive work and training experience including challenging objectives that are consistent with your career goals and current level of education. Specific responsibilities are outlined below.

How you will do it

Quality & CI Operations

  • Manage/coordinate quality & continuous improvement projects across our CPVC injection molding and extrusion plant, supporting the development and improvement of processes according to the established objectives and timeline.

Quality

  • Interact with internal stakeholders to clarify and update ISO procedures within the quality management system

  • Confer with engineering, quality, and operations personnel to develop and propose solutions to product and process nonconformities

  • Execute capability and gage R&R analysis using the plant's SPC system

  • Lead projects to expand the use of the SPC & plant floor data collection systems

Continuous Improvement

  • Expand plant floor communication tools (KPI Dashboards, QRQC Boards, Kaizen / Idea Board, Production Change Boards), promoting a visual factory / CI culture

  • Provide project support to CI professionals working on lean / six sigma projects

  • Document, train, and deploy improvements across required functions and at various levels of the organization

  • Provide regular updates to the intern mentor

What we look for

Required Qualifications Education, Skills & Experience

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. college or university

  • Pursuing a degree in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, quality engineer, business management or similar discipline

  • Available to work full-time throughout the summer in our Huntsville, AL manufacturing facility

  • U.S. citizen or legal right to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications Education, Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to analytically solve problems, learn quickly & work independently

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in classroom and/or extracurricular activities

  • Strong communication and organization skills

This position is responsible for providing overall leadership in defining, designing and implementing the process effectiveness program for the Poland WISLA IBCS program. The position requires a strong knowledge of quality management systems, quality engineering techniques, and Mission Assurance planning and protocol. The mission assurance planning and protocol includes the analysis of risk mitigation, leading for continuous improvement, and design, and analysis of process effectiveness. Familiarity with the Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) command media approach to implementation of quality management systems is a strong plus. The position will be located in Huntsville, Alabama. Specific responsibilities include: * Creation of program processes and procedures to ensure consistent, quality products are delivered to internal and external customers. * Initiating and Supporting Continuous Improvement activities including basic process improvements and Six Sigma projects, where appropriate. * Coordination of Corrective and Preventive Action System status and inputs. * Coordination of CMMI L5 and AS9100-related activities on the program, including preparation for internal and external assessments, as required. * Managing the Six Sigma program. * Providing process effectiveness and CMMI-related inputs to the Business Acquisition Process (BAP) during proposal and down-select activities. * Participation in Division and Sector process effectiveness initiatives as required. Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business or Information Technology (or related field) and a minimum of 10 years' experience with quality management or process effectiveness in program environments, or, Master's Degree 8 years' of experience. Bachelor's degree is preferred; Six years of process-related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. * Candidate must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret clearance Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) and AS9100 desired * Six Sigma certification or experience in other Process Improvement Methodology desired * Active Secret Clearance Northrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
