Scope:

The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for coordinating Document Review, Implementation and Specification Maintenance. This role requires a very organized individual with a strong understanding of Thermal Processing and Microbiology to be able to complete tasks on a timely basis and maintain permanent records for the company and its customers.

Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:

  • Review Batch Processing and associated records to ensure compliance with cGMP and GDP requirements. Effectively communicate problems to Production management and initiates corrective procedures.

  • Identify and log Process Deviations and initiate the Root Cause Analysis and CAPA process.

  • Responsible for initiating appropriate actions that address Food Safety concerns, including escalation to Quality and Operations Management.

  • Create and maintain One Point Lessons and SOPs related to Food Processing/Safety for Operations.

  • Responsible for developing monthly quality trainings and presenting along with the quality portion of new hire orientation.

  • Assist in the maintenance of the SQF code guidance spreadsheet and support FSSC 22000.

  • Assist in internal audit program and mock recalls.

  • Supports the QMS process.

  • Act as a backup to the production coordinator for the Creation and Maintenance of MSPECs and all finished product labels.

  • Collaborate with site and department leaders to develop and maintain the most efficient quality assurance procedures for respective areas.

  • Generate ideas for continuous quality improvement and participate in the development and implementation of new policies, procedures and/or programs.

  • Maintain a work environment committed to sustainable safety by enforcing safety rules, setting a safe example, coaching and communicating to department associates the reasons for safe operations.

  • Must be available to assist off hours if required

  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Food Science, Microbiology or Engineering preferred.

  • 1-3 years of food manufacturing QA experience. Knowledge of Thermal Processing and/or Aseptic Processing required.

  • HACCP Certification from a nationally / internationally recognized and accredited HACCP training firm or currently in the process of obtaining preferred

  • Knowledge of FDA regulations and SQF experience required

  • Strong expertise in Quality Assurance and cGMP/GDP requirements.

  • Must have strong organizational and leadership skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross functional departments within the organization

  • Strong communication skills required - both verbal and written

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and corrective action/resolution skills

  • Strong computer skills with experience using Word, Excel, Power Point.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to physically perform the functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions

  • Must be able to work seated using a computer and phone for long periods of time.

  • Must be able to work extended hours, such as daily overtime and an occasional weekend

  • Must possess visual acuity to document company records

  • Continuous walking throughout plant and distribution center.

  • Lifting up to 40 pounds

VIEW JOBS 11/28/2020 12:00:00 AM 2021-02-26T00:00 SCOPE The Liquid Blending Specialist position is responsible for maximizing blending/processing equipment utilization and delivering on productivity, quality, and product yield rates to agreed performance requirements. Deliver on established and agreed standards for safety, policy, quality, efficiency, and productivity. Working with the Production Supervisor and Operations Manager, help support department efforts in the execution of preventative, predictive, and reliability maintenance programs. Ability to lead and coordinate work activities across blending, storage, and processing areas and which will support best use of available plant resources. Help decide on equipment tear-down schedules, scope of work while leading final execution. With accuracy and honesty, completes shift reporting requirements for blending productivity rate/cost, blending yields, safety, first time quality, efficiencies, and temperature compliance/variance. Facilitates communication between front and back of line to ensure productivity metrics are met and maintains documentation with a high degree of accuracy and quality. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Promotes safety amongst team and conducts him/herself in accordance with all safety guidelines at all times; Complies with all food manufacturing and safety regulations. * Utilizes all food safety and food security guidelines, including Safe Quality Foods (SQF) good manufacturing practices and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points. * Maximize blending and processing uptime while ensuring consistent plant operation performance to quality, productivity, cost and safety requirements. * Facilitate successful execution of the scheduled production plan and timeline. Make changes to to plan where necessary so as to support improved production operation and efficiencies. * Ensure documentation is complete and fully in compliance at blending/processing and CIP areas. Where deviations to standard requirements, lead processor/batcher to ensure deviation reports and corrective actions are documented and fully implemented in a timely manner. * Ensure maximum recovery of CIP detergent and product transition wastes ensuring reduced effluent waste flow/peaks, pH and total dissolved solids. * Contribute to cross-functional team efforts (maintenance, quality, operations, and warehouse) to implement continuous improvement initiatives in the blending/processing areas. * Responsible for liquid blending/compounding raw materials into large scale batches. * Ensure compliance with proper PPE guidelines. * Able to run all product line machines in the department, provide machine operator coverage in case of absences * Communicates with Production Supervisor/Operations Manager to define daily work schedules that minimize overtime and reduce labor costs * Provides leadership and guidance to all staff for continual improvement of key functions and activities to improve efficiency and meet increasing customer and business demands. * Maintains professional, helpful attitude in dealings with co-workers, supervisors, and their departmental personnel at all times * Inspects products for defects, and measure products to determine accuracy of machine operation, using rules, templates, or other measuring instruments. * Observes correction of machine malfunctions, and assists in adjusting machines, within tolerances, as necessary. * Accurately records all downtime for proper production calculations * Assist in training, mentoring, and development of new blending operators. * Completion of product TTA, pH, Brix and density product testing requirements where needed. Final approval of batch where full customer specifications are satisfied. When product is out of specification, make adjustments where required to bring finished product into customer specification requirements as directed by QC. * Reads job orders to determine product specifications to plan operational sequences. * Makes minor electrical and mechanical repairs and adjustments to machines and notify supervisor/ maintenance when major service is required. * Starts up, shuts down, and completes product change overs on all manufacturing equipment following SOPs. * Maintains and completes documentation of permanent records for the company and its customers with a high degree of neatness and accuracy. * Demonstrates essential problem solving methods and initiative. * Complies with all food manufacturing and safety regulations. * Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and other company employees. * Willing and able to work overtime as needed.
