Position Title: Software Engineer Controls

Position Description:

Position title: Requirement Specification Quality Assurance engineer.

This position is to assess the quality of Feature/Function specifications and the feature development practices used by feature owners in Product Development, as well as provide feature owners support in developing requirements.

It focuses on improving the Feature and Function specification quality by applying Requirement Engineering process, templates & tools, and promoting a peer review culture.


  • Educate feature owners about the Requirement Engineering process.

  • Use Requirement Engineering guidelines, tools and checklists to evaluate quality of specifications and supporting documents.

  • Emphasize the importance of local SME peer-reviews at each stage of the development cycle and review evidence of such reviews

  • Verify critical design aspects such as Robustness, Fault Handling, Diagnostics, Power and Operational modes as well as Network Interfaces are considered during requirement development.

  • Verify that Feature Owners integrate Lessons Learned in the feature design process, and FMA/FMEA results are fed back into the feature/function specification as measureable requirements.

  • Assess the quality of development processes relative to feature verification & validation plan and test specifications. Confirm proper verification and test coverage has been identified. Verify test specification sign-off from key stakeholders.

  • Support Feature Change Governance meeting and conduct risk assessment for feature requirement changes after .

  • Develop standard design aid/design checklists to be used during development and subsequent peer review of the specifications.

  • Provide hands-on support and coaching to the feature owners on developing critical areas in feature and function specification documents.


Skills Required:

  • Working knowledge on Requirement Engineering processes and tools .

  • Systems architecture design (bottom-up, top-down, functional decomposition, reusability, etc.).

Skills Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Model-Based System Engineering languages for requirement capture and information model development (SysML, UML, Simulink, etc.) (preferred).

Experience Required:

  • 3+ year experience on specification/requirement development for Automotive applications

  • Experience in the software development, embedded design/applications or system/subsystem engineering for the automotive domain.

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience in software quality assurance (preferred).

Education Required:

Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or an equivalent technical discipline.

This includes features such as navigation, media, entertainment, phone, voice, and vehicle interfaces. Responsibilities: * Develop and execute functional test scenarios and test utilizing user stories contained within Agile Sprints. * Review project requirements to ensure requirements are testable * Clearly document software defects encountered during the testing process * Work with feature engineers to reproduce and troubleshoot defects found in the system. * Participate in root cause analysis of hardware quality problems and software defects * Participate in system design, documentation, and testing to deliver a best in-class infotainment system * During sprint planning provide estimates on the amount of time needed to complete testing related tasks Minimum Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science * 3+ years authoring and executing functional test scenarios Preferred Qualifications: * 5+ years authoring and executing functional test scenarios * Proficiency of C/C++ language, Python, HTML5, GNU toolchain, and Unix: QNX, Linux, or equivalent * Proficiency with serial data communication including: CAN, LIN, I2C, and SPI * Proficiency with bus interfaces including: USB, PCI, SDIO, and memory mapped interfaces * Proficiency with consumer electronic protocols including: Bluetooth, USB, and Wi-Fi * Proficiency with revision control including: git, subversion, or equivalent * Working knowledge and experience developing an infotainment feature technology, such as navigation, voice recognition, media phone, or a similar technology * Excellent project management skills, customer focus, as well as written and oral communication skills * Automotive product development process and quality experience (i.e., ASPICE, FMEA, etc.) * Working knowledge of Agile software development practices The distance between imagination and … creation.
