Position Title: Software Engineer Controls

Position Description:

Position title: Requirement Specification Quality Assurance engineer.

This position is to assess the quality of Feature/Function specifications and the feature development practices used by feature owners in Product Development, as well as provide feature owners support in developing requirements.

It focuses on improving the Feature and Function specification quality by applying Requirement Engineering process, templates & tools, and promoting a peer review culture.


  • Educate feature owners about the Requirement Engineering process.

  • Use Requirement Engineering guidelines, tools and checklists to evaluate quality of specifications and supporting documents.

  • Emphasize the importance of local SME peer-reviews at each stage of the development cycle and review evidence of such reviews

  • Verify critical design aspects such as Robustness, Fault Handling, Diagnostics, Power and Operational modes as well as Network Interfaces are considered during requirement development.

  • Verify that Feature Owners integrate Lessons Learned in the feature design process, and FMA/FMEA results are fed back into the feature/function specification as measureable requirements.

  • Assess the quality of development processes relative to feature verification & validation plan and test specifications. Confirm proper verification and test coverage has been identified. Verify test specification sign-off from key stakeholders.

  • Support Feature Change Governance meeting and conduct risk assessment for feature requirement changes after .

  • Develop standard design aid/design checklists to be used during development and subsequent peer review of the specifications.

  • Provide hands-on support and coaching to the feature owners on developing critical areas in feature and function specification documents.


Skills Required:

  • Working knowledge on Requirement Engineering processes and tools .

  • Systems architecture design (bottom-up, top-down, functional decomposition, reusability, etc.).

Skills Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Model-Based System Engineering languages for requirement capture and information model development (SysML, UML, Simulink, etc.) (preferred).

Experience Required:

  • 3+ year experience on specification/requirement development for Automotive applications

  • Experience in the software development, embedded design/applications or system/subsystem engineering for the automotive domain.

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience in software quality assurance (preferred).

Education Required:

Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or an equivalent technical discipline.

The Engineer will interface with systems group to define vehicle level functional specifications. * The candidate will also: Develop component level specifications; participate in Product Assurance Planning (Program Management); manage the supplier of the components; and component DFMEA (Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis), DVRR (Design Validation and Reliability Report), and Timing Proactive Quality Plan. * The candidate will participate in Reactive Quality Problem Solving and will be supporting Supplier Quality during Process Sign-off (PS) and PFMEA reviews (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis). * In addition, the Engineer will be releasing components via Change Management System (CN's) and will interface with EMEA, APAC and LATAM counterparts on global commonality Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science (or equivalent) from an ABET accredited university * 3+ years of electronic ECU development and releasing experience * Full understanding of automotive electronic ECU development process * Experience managing or developing embedded software * Strong leadership skills (prepared to lead a supplier team) Preferred Qualifications * Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university. * Experience managing suppliers and/or engineers. * Proficient in Labview, Teststand, Veristand, CAPL * Familiar with cryptographic principals. * Familiar with ethernet and CAN/CAN-FD protocols. * Outstanding communication and organization skills Travel * Will be required to drive a company car. * Valid driver's license is required as well as a clean driving record. * Will be required to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% * Some travel to Mexico assembly plants Category Product Engineering Function Engineering Req ID JN -112018-28007 Gtech Services Dearborn MI
