Job Description:

United States Steel Corporation is seeking a Quality Assurance Engineer at our Midwest facility who will be responsible for implementing the quality assurance program in the manufacturing facility, including partnering with the Operations team to monitor for adherence to quality standards.

Specific duties of the position include:

  • Review customer specifications.

  • Provide metallurgical technical support to Operations management.

  • Identify process changes for quality improvements and analysis of process and product data.

  • Perform quality audits and manage the quality system.

  • Provide the producing facility with technical and quality systems support, including rejection analysis, and process improvement recommendations.

  • Apply education/technical experience and utilize problem solving and continuous improvement skills.

  • Provide technical service to internal customers in physical and metallurgical characteristics of process and products and quality control.

  • Develop and review various quality reports, conduct various quality meetings, perform daily audits to ensure operation is running within defined operation/quality parameters and procedures.


  • Technical degree required.

  • Experience in steel or heavy industrial manufacturing

  • Skills in developing collaborative relationships to achieve results, analysis, continuous improvement and verbal and written technical communication.

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and API Q1 quality system requirements is a plus.

This position is responsible for performing quality functions not limited to the preparation, review and approval of quality related documentation and ensuring compliance across the Quality System. The candidate must be able to function efficiently in a team environment. Specific assignments will vary based on the experience and expertise of the successful candidate. Responsibilities: * Lead, investigate and approve quality related activities such as non-conformance, deviation, OOT, OOS and complaint investigations across all aspects of Quality Systems. * Ensure adequate root cause analysis as well as identification and implementation of corrective and preventative actions (CAPA). * Lead and project manage actions associated with investigations, deviations and CAPAs to through to closure. * Lead cross-functional teams through risk mitigation analysis. * Review and approve qualifications, validations, and other studies for technical content, statistical and sampling rationale, unintended impact and clarity. Act as the Quality representative for qualification and validation approvals for all validated equipment and/or processes. * Act as the Quality representative for review, approval and implementation of change control records. * Review and assess from a technical perspective the content of all manufacturing, process, procedure, and material changes. Assist in process data collection and analysis, provide training in the use of statistical techniques as needed. * Ensure effective quality by design support for process improvement activities and technology transfer to production floor. * Act as a Quality representative supporting issue identification and resolution by applying root cause methodologies. * Maintain quality systems metrics, to include trending, and preparation of reports to management in an effort to drive the process of continuous improvement throughout Aquestive. * Collaborate on the design and implementation of in-process control and incoming inspection test methods, acceptance criteria and sampling plans & rationale. * Prepare, review and approve Standard Operating Procedures in order to maintain quality systems that are in line with current regulations and industry standards . * Analyze system and document changes for appropriateness and ensure adequate impact analysis is performed. * Review and approve system and document changes. * Drive closure of open items (change control, CAPA, ) in a timely manner. * Participate in all site compliance efforts as well as onsite regulatory agency inspections, corrective action implementation and agency response. Qualifications: * BS degree preferably in chemistry , biochemistry or related science field highly desired. * 3+ years experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. * Engineering, or operational/technical expertise preferred. * STEM discipline - preferred. * Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. * Experience in interacting with several departments and leading cross functional teams and projects. * Demonstrated knowledge of GMPs and other regulatory requirements for the manufacture, testing, and release of pharmaceutical products. * Good organizational skills, high level of attention to detail, excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact at all levels both internally and and externally. * Experience working directly with regulatory bodies a plus.
