  • MAIN PURPOSE

  • To execute Quality Control testing to ensure requirements for process control and product quality are satisfied.

  • To lead coordination of test timing and analytical data reporting to achieve targeted shipment dates.

  • To maintain inventory of supplies and reagents required to support QC testing.

  • To support the design, development, installation, validation and improvement of analytical instruments, methods and technology, including maintaining instruments and ensuring consistent reliable operation of laboratory equipment.

The role will support the implementation of new and improved laboratory systems, processes and procedures.

  • COMPLEXITY OF THE JOB

e.g. The occupant manages vendors from different geographical regions with various financial and legal conditions, level and impact of decisions the occupant needs to make.

  • The QC Lead is responsible for implementation, calibration and maintenance of all analytical equipment and methods used to assess the product quality of materials received and produced at the electrolyte blending facility. The analytical instruments must be available at all times and calibrated / validated to appropriate standards.

  • The role is responsible for successful implementation of improvement projects in the QC lab involving introduction of new equipment, analytical techniques, or test methods.

  • This position is responsible for execution of quality testing on commercial blending products and is critical to the successful release of fine chemical products with exacting quality standards.

  • Many sample preparations and analytical tests must be executed in an isolation chamber to maintain integrity of the sample and not generate false results

  • This position's tasks will be executed in a hazardous chemical environment where attention to detail is imperative for worker safety

The position will require fine attention to detail for meeting product quality standards.

  • MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accurately analyze and record results for samples submitted to the QC laboratory ensuring incoming materials and final product quality is controlled within agreed specification.

  • Review analyses of other scientists.

  • Prioritize work supporting production and customer demands, coordinating testing schedules to ensure production and shipping schedules are not impacted by timeliness of results reporting.

  • Carry out investigation into any abnormal results and report to production personnel and/or the Quality Assurance Team Leader as appropriate.

  • Maintain & calibrate QC analytical equipment in line with laboratory procedures & schedules ensuring availability of critical equipment to support production.

  • Lead or support technical projects to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and/or compliance of laboratory processes, procedures, and IT systems supporting the QC lab.

  • Work closely with production, technical, and QA teams to understand production processes and analytical requirements to support problem-solving and/or continuous improvement activities.

Provide training and coaching in analytical techniques, test methods, and/or laboratory systems to technical and QC personnel as required.

  • EDUCATION

Minimum: Degree in Chemistry or related subject. Relevant experience can be accepted in place of the education requirement.

  • KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Knowledge from experience of working in a QC laboratory.

  • Knowledge of Analytical techniques and wet chemistry testing performed in the QC lab (KF, GC, IC, HPLC, ICP-OES).

Knowledge of equipment troubleshooting for instruments used in techniques listed above.

  • EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

8 years' experience working in a QC laboratory setting or similar, coordinating testing with production teams.
